Russian Defense Ministry Appoints Admiral Vladimir Korolyov as New Navy Commander-in-Chief
 
Admiral Vladimir Korolyov, the commander of Russia’s Northern Fleet since 2011, has been appointed as Russian Navy commander-in-chief, according to the information posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s website on Thursday. "He [Korolyov] was appointed as Russian Navy commander-in-chief in April 2016," the ministry’s website said.

Korolyov succeeded Admiral Viktor Chirkov who had held the position of the Russian Navy commander-in-chief from May 5, 2012 and resigned for health reasons. Nikolai Yevmenov has been appointed as new Russian Northern Fleet commander. Earlier, he held the position of Northern Fleet deputy commander.

"In April 2016, he [Yevmenov] was appointed as Northern Fleet commander in accordance with the presidential decree," the ministry’s website said.

Vladimir Korolyov was born on February 1, 1955. He graduated from the Frunze Higher Naval School in Leningrad, the Navy’s Higher Special Officer Courses and the Kuznetsov Naval Academy. Korolyov was the commander of Russia’s Black Sea and Northern Fleets.

In December 2014, Korolyov was appointed as head of the Sever (North) United Strategic Command. He held the position of Navy acting commander-in-chief from November 2015. Nikolai Yevmenov was born in April 1962 in Moscow. He graduated from the Leninsky Komsomol Higher Naval Submarine Navigation School and the Kuznetsov Naval Academy. In 2011, he was appointed as Pacific Fleet submarine force commander. From September 2012, he held the position of chief of staff and first deputy commander of Russia’s Northern Fleet.
