Damen delivers its first hybrid tug boat to the Royal Netherlands Navy
 
The first of a series of three ASD TUGs 2810 Hybrid was navigated into the Den Helder harbour by the Royal NetherlandsNavy (RNLN) on Saturday, February 20th. This hybrid tug that bears the name Noordzee is almost 29 meters long and is the first standard hybrid tug supplied by Damen that the RNLN will employ.

China's 25th Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class) Tongren Commissioned in PLAN South Sea Fleet
 
A commissioning, naming and flag-presenting ceremony of the new Tongren corvette (hull number 507) of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) was held solemnly at the Shantou Naval Base located between Taiwan and Hong Kong in Southern China. The event means that the warship is officially commissioned to the PLAN. Tongren is the twenty-fifth Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class).

First CH-148 Cyclone Helicopter Fully Manned by RCAF Crew Lands on HMCS Halifax Frigate
 
Just off the coast of Nova Scotia recently, the sun shone on a milestone achievement for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CH-148 Cyclone helicopter project. The first Cyclone helicopter, fully manned by Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) personnel, successfully landed on a Canadian warship at sea on January 27, 2016. Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Halifax, the ship on which the first Cyclone landing occurred, has been involved with CH-148 testing and training for the past year.

Thales Awarded Contract for Estonian Defence Forces Sandown-class Minehunter Upgrade
 
Following an international competition, Thales has been awarded the role of prime contractor in the upgrade of three Sandown Class Single Role Minehunters for the Estonian Ministry of Defence. Thales will be the Prime Contractor on behalf of the Estonian MoD, with responsibility for the revised vessel design, equipment/system specification and procurement, platform and system integration, shipyard management and all test, trial and acceptance events.

Russian Navy Caspian Flotilla to Receive Project 12061 Murena-class Assault Hovercraft
 
The Russian Navy Caspian Flotilla will have received three new tugs in 2016 and Project 12061 Murena-class (NATO reporting name: Tsaplya-class) air-cushioned landing craft in 2017, the flotilla’s commander, Rear Admiral Igor Osipov, told TASS in an interview on Friday.

A U.S. Navy Aircraft Vehicle Modification and Instrumentation team is hard at work augmenting instrumentation to an Edwardsassigned KC-135 tanker. The unusual arrangement started when the Navy PMA-290 program office approached the 412th Test Management Group about using the Edwards AFB-instrumented KC-135 to certify their P-8A Poseidon from Navy unit VX-20 at Patuxent River, Maryland, for aerial refueling.

Third Astute Class SSN Submarine HMS Artful in Final Sea Trials Ahead of Maiden Deployment
 
Artful, the third of the Royal Navy’s new Astute-class attack submarines, has been busy conducting her final Contractor Sea Trials ahead of her maiden deployment. The sophisticated submarine sailed from Barrow-in-Furness in August last year for her new home at HM Naval Base Clyde and since then has been proving her systems and equipment at sea.

Combat Systems On-Board Royal Australian Navy Air Warfare Destroyer Hobart Come Alive
 
The past few weeks have seen the combat systems and test activities come alive for the first air warfare destroyer, the future HMAS Hobart of the Royal Australian Navy. Combat system compartments, such as the Combat System Equipment Rooms, the Combat Information Centre (CIC) and the radar equipment room, are filled with personnel and activity as equipment is powered on for the first time and functionally tested.

"Kid" Donegan, Commander U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (US NAVCENT) visited French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. USS Harry S Truman and Charles de Gaulle aircraft carriers are currently deployed in the Arabian/Persian Gulf in support of coalition operations against Daesh in Iraq and Syria.

Belgian Navy NH90 NFH Maritime Helicopter in Qualification Tests with Royal Netherlands Navy OPV
 
A Belgian Navy NH90 NFH (Nato Frigate Helicopter) maritime helicopter conducted qualification trials with the Royal Netherlands Navy Holland-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) HNLMS Zeeland. The Belgian Navy crew made 10 landings with the Caiman RN03 on the OPV's flight deck.

According to Russian media, a Turkish Navy Meltem II CASA CN-235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) tracked two Russian Navy Black Sea fleet surface vessels during their transit to the Mediterranean Sea. The two vessels are likely Project 21631 small missile ship (Buyan-M class corvette) Zelyony Dol and the ocean-going mine-sweeper Kovrovets. We reported about their deployment last week.

This flexibility of platforms, combined with Saab’s mission system know-how and integration skills, means that the Swordfish system can fulfil the widest range of maritime C4ISR and combat roles and missions.

The French defence procurement agency (DGA) has selected Thales to upgrade the command functions of the French Army and Navy as part of the SIA information system transformation programme. Under this contract, designated SIA C2,1 Thales will replace the Army and Navy’s legacy command information systems with a single harmonised system to meet the growing need for force interoperability.
