South Korea Selected Fincantieri as Preferred Bidder in the Sale of STX France Naval Shipyard

A South Korean court has selected Italy's shipbuilding giant Fincantieri to be the preferred bidder in the sale of STX France located in Saint Nazaire. The French government will likely let France's naval defense group DCNS buy a minority stake of the shipyard.

STX France FincantieriSTX France Saint Nazaire is the only shipyard in France where larger vessels such as aircraft carriers, LHDs, LPDs and replenishment vessels may be constructed and launched.

The Italian shipbuilder issued the following press release:
Fincantieri announces that it has received a letter from Samil PricewaterhouseCoopers, advisor appointed by STX Europe, with the notification that it has been selected as preferred bidder in the sale of the 66.66% stake in STX France SA.

The future of the Saint Nazaire shipyard is considered as a "strategic" issue by the French government: It is the only shipyard in France where larger vessels such as aircraft carriers, LHDs, LPDs and replenishment vessels may be constructed and launched.
