Spanish shipbuilding group laid the keel of the first of two Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) logistics vessels for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) during a ceremony at the shipyard in Ferrol. The two vessel were ordered in May 9, 2016 as part of project SEA1654. The keel laying ceremony took place in presence of the Chief of the RAN, Admiral Tim Barrett and the president of Navantia, Esteban García Vilasánchez.

Russian shipspotters have published pictures showing the two Project 11356 frigates Admiral Istomin and Admiral Kornilov originally intended for the Russian Navu have been launched at Yantar shipyard (JSC "Baltic Shipyard" Yantar ) in Kaliningrad. The launch was carried out, apparently , mainly to make room in the constuction dry docks.

The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of future guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) from shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Nov. 15. In early September, DDG 114 successfully demonstrated its ship's systems and readiness during a series of at sea and in-port trials for the U.S. Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV). Due to the success of the trials, INSURV recommended the ship be accepted for delivery to the U.S. Navy.

The ship is named in honor of the first woman to receive the Navy Cross. DDG 123 is the final ship in the Flight IIA series and the last of eight "Flight IIA Technology Insertion" Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.

The remote detection and tracking of submerged contacts, such as submarines, was demonstrated using an MQ-9 Predator® B Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) during a U.S. Naval exercise on October 12th.
