Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced on August 3 that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has received a $165.5 million, cost-plus-fixed-fee advance procurement contract from the U.S. Navy to provide long-lead-time material and advance construction activities for LPD 30, the first Flight II LPD.
The shipyard in Khabarovsk (a city on the Amur River in southeastern Russia) received a Russian Defense Ministry order to build dozens of air-cushion landing ships, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said.

On August 3rd, 2018, GERMAN NAVAL YARDS KIEL (GNYK) signed an agreement with thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. Marine Systems as subcontractor of GNYK, will contribute to the development and construction of the multi-purpose combat vessel MKS 180. GNYK is the only remaining German main contractor in the EU-wide tender of the German Navy. Incorporating thyssenkrupp Marine Systems’ teams into the MKS program will further increase the German share in the MKS proposal.
Elbit Systems announced today that it was awarded an approximately $85 million contract from the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) to supply Electronic Warfare (EW) suites for the Israeli Navy Sa'ar 6-class corvettes that will be tasked with the protection of Israel's Economic Exclusion Zone. The contract will be performed over a 10-year period.
Karakurt-class small missile boats (corvettes) of project 22800 received Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles, the Izvestia daily said. The Russian Navy command told the newspaper the Uragan of the Baltic fleet was the first to get the drones. It arranged on the stern the launch catapults and a special crane to lift water-landed drones. The Uragan will offer an experimental site to train drone engagement.

The Moskva missile cruiser of project 1164 (NATO: Slava-class) will undergo an overhaul at a shipyard in Sevastopol in Crimea, Flotprom online publication said. A designer of the Severnoe Bureau said the technical upgrade project had stalled because of lack of funds. "There is enough money only for sustainable overhaul," the source told Flotprom.
The project 22350 frigate Admiral Gorshkov, which has been under construction since 2006, has been included in the operational inventory of the Russian Navy. The St. Andrew flag was hoisted on the Admiral Gorshkov on July 28. The frigate has joined the 43rd missile division of the Northern fleet.
Aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) will rejoin the U.S. Pacific Fleet when it shifts its homeport from Norfolk, Va., to San Diego. Two other Nimitz-class carriers will change homeports to accommodate scheduled carrier maintenance periods, Naval Air Forces announced in a Thursday news release reported by Gidget Fuentes on USNI News..
Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Charleston (LCS 18) successfully completed acceptance trials in the Gulf of Mexico, July 19, after a series of in-port and underway demonstrations for the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey.
The future JS Maya was launched on July 30th from the Japan Marine United Shipyard in Yokohama’s Isogo ward. The ship, the first of its class of improved Atago Aegis destroyers, is the seventh of eight planned Aegis ships to be fielded by the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF).
Saab has received an order from the U.S. Navy to supply the Sea Giraffe AMB Multi Mode Radar (MMR) for the Navy’s Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) class ship USNS Hershel "Woody" Williams, ESB 4. The sale also includes Saab’s 9LV Naval Combat System for radar control and display delivering enhanced situational awareness as well as Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) capability.
