The resurgence of piracy on the high seas, the increasing difficulty in protecting sovereign shorelines and defense budget restrains demand an advanced, yet affordable, maritime security solution. Countries now need ships designed to counter multiple threats arising in the open ocean to coastal waters. Raytheon Company announced at Euronaval that it has successfully completed flight tests of its Griffin™ C increased capability missile. The tests at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona highlighted the missile’s In-Flight Target Update (IFTU) capability when it was redirected to a new target in mid-flight. IFTU is vital for naval forces facing swarming boat threats that often intermingle with friendly and neutral shipping.

At Euronaval 2014, MBDA yesterday officially announced that the SIMBAD-RC ship self-defence system has now entered the qualification phase. The first deliveries of series production units will occur in 2015. The SIMBAD-RC is the “remote controlled” variant of the SIMBAD twin launcher system equipped with two ready-to-fire Mistral missiles, already in service with the French Navy and with several navies around the world.

MBDA and French DGA announce successful final qualification firing for MdCN missile system
 
At the occasion of Euronaval 2014, the French DGA (Direction Générale d’Armement) and MBDA announce the successful final qualification firing of the MdCN system (Missile de Croisière Naval, also known as NCM or Naval Cruise Missile). The firing, which took place on 27th October 2014 at the DGA’s “Missile Test Centre” at Biscarrosse (Landes) on France’s Atlantic coast, represented a missile launch from a frigate.
