Metal Shark Boats to showcase its Relentless and Defiant series of Patrol Boats at DIMDEX

Metal Shark 28 Relentless
Agile and maneuverable, yet tough enough to withstand the harshest environments imaginable, the 28 Relentless is the most versatile and customizable craft in the Metal Shark patrol series. The multi-mission craft is ideally-suited for a range of applications, from border protection and port security to drug interdiction and gunship operations. The 28 Relentless also offers Metal Shark’s most innovative option: the fully transformable Optimus cabin.

Consistent Durability
Consistent quality is the hallmark of Metal Shark’s manufacturing process. The company designs all of its hulls and components utilizing advanced 3-D rendering software which, when combined with computer-guided routers, ensures that every Metal Shark meets the rigorous standards of even the most demanding operators.
The 28 Relentless’ structural integrity begins with the internal structure of the hull itself. Welded from high-grade 5086 aluminum alloy, the deck-height longitudinal and transverse structures interlock with one another to form the boat’s incredibly rigid “skeleton.” Additionally, the incorporation of bends in place of welds in key locations affords reduced weight and increased efficiency while maintaining the boat’s incredible toughness and durability.

Further contributing to the 28 Relentless’ strength is the boat’s rugged, non-skid deck, which is fully welded to the hull, transverse bulkheads, and longitudinal girders. The innovative deck design provides unmatched strength while minimizing waste. Prior to final assembly, the hull is filled with expandable foam, making the 28 Relentless not only bulletproof (with the addition of the optional Optimus cabin), but also allowing for level floatation when the boat is fully swamped.

Truly setting the 28 Relentless apart from other vessels in its class is the boat’s fully-customizable Optimus cabin option. Featuring air conditioning and heat, and sliding side and rear windows, the convertible pilothouse design of the Optimus cabin offers all of the luxury associated with a full cabin, but can also be quickly and easily converted into an open center console with T-Top. Most importantly, all Optimus cabin panels and windows can be enhanced with ballistic materials, rendering the cabin – and its occupants – bulletproof.

Metal Shark Boats will exhibit at DIMDEX 2012, the third Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference in Qatar March 26 - 28. Primarily focused on the military, law enforcement, and commercial sectors, Metal Shark has a wide range of existing designs, or can custom-design a boat based a customer’s specific mission requirements.

Customizable Versatility
In addition to its unparalleled build quality, the 28 Relentless boasts an impressive array of standard features, including:
  • A self-bailing cockpit with 6-inch scuppers,
  • Six (6) eight-inch welded cleats,
  • 150-gallon baffled aluminum fuel tank,
  • Hydraulic steering with stainless wheel,
  • Navigation lights,
  • Dual-switched batteries,
  • and two 2000 gallon-per-hour bilge pumps with auto/manual control

The 28 Relentless also features port and starboard dive reliefs along the gunwales to facilitate on-water boarding and recovery operations. Multiple engine configurations also afford it a 20,000-pound towing capacity, making the 28 Relentless the ideal search and seizure or fleet support platform.
While the boat’s durable construction and wide assortment of standard features make it the perfect platform for any number of applications, its list of fully-customizable options is what makes the 28 Relentless truly unique. With a maximum rating of 600 horsepower (hp), the Relentless can be configured to accommodate multiple engine configurations, including:

  • Twin outboards,
  • Twin diesel/jet inboards,
  • or twin diesel/outdrive inboards

A 200-gallon fuel tank is also available for extended-range missions, and optional shock-mitigating seats ensure crew comfort in even the most inhospitable waters. Further enhancing the 1/4-inch welded aluminum hull’s durability is a full protective collar. Depending on the application, the 28 Relentless offers foam, foam/air hybrid, and full-air collar options. Users selecting the air collar option enjoy the added convenience of an onboard inflation/deflation system for close-quarters maneuverability. For law enforcement and fire suppression applications, the 28 Relentless also features optional gun mounts and tripods as well as an integrated fire pump.

Metal Shark 38 Defiant
In March 2011 Metal Shark Boats completed delivery of two (2) 38 Defiant training craft to the U.S. Navy as a Force Protection Boat-Large (FPB-L) Training platform. Designed for global deployment as a force/asset protection vessel, the 38 Defiant fleet will be based out of Little Creek Training Center in Virginia. With 19 Force Protection Boat-Small (FPB-S) vessels - based on the Metal Shark 27 Defiant platform - currently deployed to Bahrain for Naval asset protection, the Defiant platform is already a well-known asset to Naval forces worldwide.

Versatility Redefined
Powered by twin 5.9-liter Cummins diesel engines and maneuvered with Hamilton 292 Waterjets, Defiant intercepts would-be threats at a top speed of 40 knots. Three (3) weapon foundation mounts and a gunner’s tub ensure the crew’s safety, as well as that of vessels under Defiant’s protection. Extensive electronics and a co-pilot’s full set of throttle, bucket and shift controls provide unparalleled visibility, as well as unrivaled control of the vessel itself. With an eye toward crew comfort, 38 Defiant’s extended cabin offers SHOX-brand shock mitigating seats, engine-driven heat and air conditioning, and a private head.

Metal Shark has taken a new approach to collared craft with an innovative foam collar that increases deck space and workable area while offering ample protection for the craft and its occupants. The removable urethane-sheathed solid foam collar combines the utility of a full foam collar with the deck space and simplicity of a hard sided craft.
In addition to its unparalleled build quality, the 38 Defiant boasts an impressive array of standard features, including:

  • A self-bailing cockpit with 6-inch scuppers,
  • Six (6) eight-inch welded cleats,
  • 300-gallon baffled aluminum fuel tank,
  • Two helm seats with dual controls,
  • Bow deck with storage compartment and hatch,
  • Hydraulic steering,
  • and two 2000 gallon-per-hour bilge pumps with auto/manual control
