Sonardyne to demonstrate 360° surface and underwater security at NAVDEX 2013

This year at the second annual NAVDEX maritime security exhibition, Sonardyne International Ltd. will be giving live demonstrations of its fully automated surface and underwater security system NiDAR, and world leading diver detection sonar, Sentinel IDS. Taking place at the ADNEC exhibition centre in Abu Dhabi, the event runs from 17th-21st February, where Sonardyne will be on the UK Trade and Industry stand B-009.

Zodiac MILPRO has supplied two top-of-the- range In board diesel RIBS for use by the advanced new Offshore Patrol Vessel : L’ Adroit. The 87 metre vessel built by DCNS Group will be presented at Navdex. The Zodiac Hurricane Ribs will be central to many of the duties of L’Adroit and will be deployed from a unique launching ramp in the Adroit’s stern. This will enable the RIB to be launched and recovered quickly and safely in extreme sea conditions .
Sentinel IDS will be deployed from a visiting Royal Navy vessel to provide 360° underwater coverage of the surrounding area. Specialist divers will attempt to approach the vessel undetected twice daily throughout the exhibition.

Co-located with the annual IDEX exhibition, NAVDEX is one of the leading naval and maritime security events in the Middle East featuring a dedicated Maritime Security pavilion and in-water demonstrations. During simulated attacks held twice daily, naval divers will attempt to reach undetected a visiting Royal Navy vessel protected with a Sentinel intruder sonar. Visitors onboard will experience first-hand Sentinel’s ability to detect and classify the divers as soon as they enter the water, track their progress and raise alarms. Once a diver is detected, the NIDAR system interfaced to Sentinel will use its suite of sensors to gather, analyse and display additional threat classification data.

Appearing inside the show on Sonardyne’s stand will be Solstice, a low power side scan sonar developed specifically for naval operations using AUVs. It provides class-leading acoustic imagery especially in shallow water environments and, at NAVDEX, Solstice data sets will be available to study and a fully installed unit will be displayed on a newly delivered AUV.

“NAVDEX is the premier maritime security exhibition in the region and a great platform for presenting the capabilities of Sentinel, NiDAR and Solstice,” said Rob Balloch, Strategic Development and Marketing Director at Sonardyne. “Intelligent surface and underwater surveillance for naval vessels and facilities is of paramount importance. Since its introduction in 2009, Sentinel has become the world’s best selling underwater surveillance system and when used in conjunction with NiDAR, users benefit from a fully automated security system that can detect, track, classify and deter any threats approaching a protected asset.”
