Toulon Naval Base to Conduct Overhauls of Future French Navy Barracuda SSNs

French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, announced that the French Navy (Marine Nationa) naval base of Toulon (in Southern France on the Mediterranean) has been retained for the major technical overhaul and refits of the future Barracuda-class nuclear powered attack submarine (SSN). Toulon facilities are currently used for the major technical overhauls of Rubis-class SSNs of the French Navy. All Barracuda SSNs will be based in Toulon.

Brest naval base (in Western France, on the Atlantic coast) will have the capacity to accomodate and perform basic and intermediate maintenance for Barracuda SSNs.

Brest is where the routine maintenance of French Navy Le Triomphant-class SSBNs is conducted, the submarines being homeported at the nearby base of l'Ile Longue.

Adapation of infrastructures and facilities to accomodate the new SSN class at both Toulon and Brest naval bases have started and will continue in the coming decade.
