Lockheed Martin to Bring Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense to Latest U.S., Korea & Japan Destroyers
 
The global Aegis fleet will expand in the U.S., Japan and the Republic of Korea under a $490 million deal with Lockheed Martin to bring integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) capabilities to new destroyers. The ships will be equipped with Aegis Baseline 9, the latest evolution of the combat system, capable of IAMD. The Aegis system includes Lockheed Martin's SPY-1 radar, the Navy's most advanced multi-function radar system. When paired with the MK 41 Vertical Launching System, it is capable of delivering missiles for every mission and threat environment in naval warfare.

China's 27th Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class) Huai'an Commissioned in PLAN East Sea Fleet
 
A commissioning, naming and flag-presenting ceremony of the new Huai'an corvette (hull number 509) of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) was held solemnly at the Zhoushan Naval Base (located in China's Zhejiang province). The event means that the vessel is officially commissioned to the PLAN. Qujing is the twenty-seventh Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class) in the PLAN fleet.

Russia's Defense Ministry Ordered Development of Husky-class New Generation Submarine (SSN)
 
Russia’s Malakhit Marine Engineering Design Bureau has signed a contract with the Defense Ministry to develop a fifth-generation nuclear-powered submarine, Design Bureau CEO Vladimir Dorofeyev said in an interview with Echo Moskvy radio station. "A contract for the development of a new-generation vessel has been signed with the Defense Ministry. The next-generation submarine is expected to be fully developed after 2020," Dorofeyev added.

AeroVironment, Inc. today announced the United States Navy has tested and deployed the RQ-20B Puma™ small unmanned aircraft system (UAS) aboard a Flight I Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG Class).Some of these exercises included the use of AeroVironment’s fully autonomous system to recover the aircraft aboard a ship. The US Navy issued a report on August 3 from the Arabian Gulf describing how Puma AE is also being utilized on Navy Patrol Craft.

The tests demonstrated operation of the new linear optics, GPS/Inertial Navigation System (INS) guidance subsystem and the control actuation system, meeting all mission objectives. Released from an F/A-18 Super Hornet, the two Mk-82 (500-lb.) inert warheads, fitted with Dual Mode Plus guidance kits, impacted fixed targets well within operational performance requirements.

Fincantieri Delivers the First 2 OPVs to the Bangladesh Coat Guard
 
Fincantieri has delivered August 4th at its shipyard in Muggiano (La Spezia) the first two units part of the supply contract of four Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV), to the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), through the upgrading and conversion of the “Minerva” class corvettes, decommissioned by the Italian Navy. These are the “Minerva” and “Sibilla” vessels, renamed “SYED NAZRUL” and “TAJUDDIN”, which have been retired from the national fleet in May 2015 and shortly after arrived at Fincantieri’s dock in Genova, where the upgrading and conversion activities started. The units have been completed at the naval shipyard in La Spezia.

This contract combines purchases for the US Navy (36.75 percent) and for the governments of Turkey (44.09 percent) and Australia (19.16 percent), under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

Work to repair Russia’s Project 11435 aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will start next year, Russian Navy Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Armament Vice-Admiral Viktor Bursuk told TASS. The ship is expected to be repaired at the Zvyozdochka Shipyard in Severodvinsk in north Russia, Bursuk added.
