Future USS North Dakota (SSN 784), First Block III Virginia Class Submarine Delivered to US Navy
 
The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of PCU North Dakota (SSN 784), the 11th ship of the Virginia Class, on Aug. 29, two days prior to its contract delivery date. North Dakota is the first of eight Virginia Class Block III ships. Approximately 20 percent of North Dakota was redesigned as part of the Virginia Cost Reduction work done to lower acquisition cost and increase operational flexibility. The changes include a ship's bow redesign, replacing 12 individual launch tubes with two large-diameter Virginia Payload Tubes, each capable of launching six Tomahawk Cruise Missiles.

Commander, Submarine Development Squadron 5 (CSDS 5), Detachment UUV, took delivery of Large Training Vehicle 38 (LTV 38), an unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV) Aug. 22. The delivery makes LTV 38 the first UUV to join the vehicle inventory used by detachment UUV at Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport.

X-47B UCAS-D achieves new set of firsts aboard aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71)
 
The U.S. Navy's unmanned X-47B completed its final test aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) Aug. 24 and returned to its home base at Naval Air Station Patuxent River after eight days at sea. While underway, the X-47B flew in the carrier pattern with manned aircraft for the first time and conducted a total of five catapult launches, four arrestments and nine touch-and-go landings, including a night time shipboard flight deck handling evaluation.

India: Defence Minister Reviews Progress of Scorpene Submarine (P75) Construction at MDL
 
Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Arun Jaitley accompanied by Admiral RK Dhowan Chief of the Naval Staff visited Mazagon Docks Limited, Mumbai on 27 Aug 14 and reviewed the progress of the Project 75 (Indigenous submarine construction) as well as the other ongoing warship building projects including P-15 B class stealth destroyers .

DCNS Completes Training Sessions for Indian Navy Future Scorpene Submarine (P75) Crews
 
DCNS has successfully completed the operational and indermediate level crew training sessions of Platform Management System and Steering Console for the Indian Navy on 08th August 2014. The trainings were conducted during five weeks at HBL, Hyderabad, for the crew of 1st & 2nd Scorpene® India submarines and MDL employees, for a total of 45 people.These trainings were initially scheduled in France but after successful local production, it was decided by DCNS and MDL with the Indian Navy to move a step ahead and conduct these trainings in India.

The Royal Malaysian Navy unveiled for the first time an official rendering of its future Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) - Second Generation Patrol Vessel (SGPV). The vessel is based on DCNS' Gowind Combat corvette design. DCNS is the warship design authority while local shipyard Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn will be in charge of buidling the vessels locally.

Royal Australian Navy LHD Canberra Completes Sea Trials as Crew Tests Landing Craft
 
NUSHIP Canberra, the first of two Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ships being built for the Australian Defence Force, has sailed on her final contractor sea trials before delivery to the Australian Government. The ship departed Williamstown shipyard on 12 August as planned with the trials taking place in both Port Phillip Bay and off the southern coast of New South Wales before returning to Williamstown around the end of August.

Minister for Defence Senator David Johnston announced Aug. 26 the United States Navy has executed an Advanced Acquisition Contract for Australia’s P-8A Poseidon aircraft. Senator Johnston said this key Defence procurement would allow the withdrawal of the ageing AP-3C Orion fleet, and enable Boeing US to place lead time orders in support of Australia’s first four P-8A aircraft.

According to French financial newspaper La Tribune Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, could sign a letter of intent (LOI) with the French Government for 6 FREMMs during his visit in Paris in early September. French Navy's FREMM multi-mission frigates are designed and built by DCNS. Five hulls have already been launched, with three Frigates delivered to the French Navy and one to the Royal Moroccan Navy.

The Coast Guard Research and Development Center evaluated the capabilities of many new technologies for Coast Guard use during its trip to the Arctic aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Healy this summer, but there was at least one device with which the Coast Guard was intimately familiar.

STX launched the 4th Incheon class frigate (FFX) ROKS Gangwon Ham for ROK Navy
 
The fourth Incheon class FFG (Guided Missile Frigate), ‘Gangwon Ham’, to protect South Korea territorial waters, was launched at a shipyard of STX Offshore & Shipbuilding in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do on August 12. The launch ceremony was attended by Gangwon Province Governor Choi Mun-sun as the guest of honor, Vice Admiral Eom Hyun-sung, the vice chief of naval operations, navy sailors, the CEO of STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Jung Sung-leep and other shipyard-related officials.

Chinese PLANAF J-11BH conducted dangerous intercept on U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon MPA
 
The Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Mission Modules (MM) program successfully completed the first Structural Test Firing (STF) of the 30mm gun mission module aboard USS Coronado (LCS 4) off the coast of Southern California April 30. The purpose of the STF is to challenge the ship in the most severe blast conditions of the weapon's fire. STF is a total ship test involving live weapons fire and is required for each ship class or variant.
The Pentagon confirmed Friday that a Chinese fighter intercepted a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA). According to images released by the Pentagon, the Chinese Jet appears to be a Shenyang J-11BH likely belong to the "People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force" (PLANAF) 8th fighter division based in Jialaishi airbase on the Island of Hainan.

USS Independence (LCS 2) successfully completed Special Trials (ST), a series of at-sea tests on Aug. 2, following the ship's participation in the multinational Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercises that took place throughout the month of July. Independence, funded as a research development test and evaluation ship, conducted an ST instead of the usual Final Contract Trial (FCT).
 


U.S. Navy's LCS MCM Mission Package Takes another Step Toward Fleet Implementation
 
The remote minehunting system (RMS) successfully completed developmental testing, Dec. 9. The objective of the developmental testing (DT) was to demonstrate that the RMS met reliability, suitability and effectiveness requirements. Preliminary analyses of the results indicate that the RMS operated as expected and the test objectives were achieved.
The U.S. Navy Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City hosted a two-week demonstration in July that verified Sailors' ability to conduct maintenance on the Littoral Combat Ship's Mine Countermeasure Mission Package without the assistance of civilian scientists or engineers.

Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadrons 469 and 303 conducted day and night deck-landing qualifications in preparation for an airborne raid of Marines from the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion onboard USS Coronado.

The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity multiple award contract has a potential value of $2.5 billion over eight years.

Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division announced today the completion of acceptance sea trials for the company's fourth U.S. Coast Guard National Security Cutter, Hamilton (WMSL 753). The ship was underway for a two-day period in the Gulf of Mexico, performing numerous tests and demonstrations of shipboard systems for the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV).
