About Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV)

"The annual Offshore Patrol Vessels Conference organized by IQPC has become an important reference world forum concerning the growing use of these naval assets, when senior representatives from different Navies can present and discuss the solutions they have found to reconcile technical issues with operational tasks and budget constraints so as to better accomplish their missions. The multidisciplinary presentations are also an excellent opportunity to get knowledge on new designs and developments from the naval shipbuilding industries, including the platform, its sensors and weapon systems."
- Rear Admiral Francisco Deiana, Director of Naval Engineering, Brazilian Navy

The flagship Offshore Patrol Vessels conference is held each year by Defence IQ, with an international speaker faculty of the utmost highest calibre, featuring senior-level representatives from navies and coast guards around the world.

This year’s meeting features the most international speaker faculty to date for the event, from Netherlands, Nigeria, Mexico, South Africa, India, Ireland, Finland, Italy, Spain and Portugal among others, and integrates a new focus on emerging markets, such as Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.

On top of the event’s traditional focus on OPV platforms, the agenda also looks at Maritime C4ISR and Maritime Domain Awareness, and features a new Shipbuilders Round Table Discussion consisting of major shipbuilders from emerging markets including South Korea, India and Columbia amongst others, allowing conference delegates to learn how to break into the new, markets outside of Europe and discuss Joint Venture opportunities.

It has also just been confirmed with the Royal Netherlands Navy that there will be an exclusive tour of the Holland Class OPV, available to all attendees of the Offshore Patrol Vessels conference, on 26th September 2012.

In 2011, the event hosted over 180 attendees from 30 countries for the rare opportunity of intense information-sharing and in-depth discussions with Vice Admirals, Rear Admirals and Commodores, all in one place, for 3 days.

OPV Europe speakers previously included Admiral Jose Santiago Valdez Alvarez, Chief of Staff, Mexican Navy; Vice Admiral O. S Ibrahim, Chief Of Staff, Nigerian Navy; Vice Admiral Roberto Garcia Márquez, Planning Chief, Colombian Navy; Rear Admiral Francisco Roberto Deiana, Director Naval Engineering, Brazilian Navy; Rear Admiral Stanislaw Zarychta, Commander of Maritime Operation Centre, Polish Navy; and Rear Admiral Hervé Nambo Ndouany, Chief of Staff, Gabonese Navy.

The 7th Annual Offshore Patrol Vessels summit will be once again held in Europe, this time in Amsterdam, The Netherlands at the Novotel. As the only event specifically dedicated to maritime patrol aircraft in Europe, Defence IQ is delighted to announce the return of our 10th annual Maritime Reconnaissance & Surveillance conference.

Last year’s Maritime Reconnaissance & Surveillance conference attracted over 150 representatives from 20 different nations. Building on this success, our 2012 event provides an unrivalled opportunity to not only listen to senior military commander about the future of their fleets, but also interact with them on a one-to-one basis. It really is the community event for Maritime Domain Awareness experts and is free to attend for all serving military and government officers if you register before Friday, 24th August 2012.

In addition to the two-day main conference, Maritime Reconnaissance & Surveillance 2012 also features a Focus Day dedicated to Organic ISR Assets for the Naval Commander. Download the conference programme for full details as well as to see who you will be able to meet in Rome in September, but highlights include:

• An analysis of the latest international operations, including Operation Unified Protector, Operation Ocean Shield and Operation Atalanta, as well as regional efforts in the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa and the South China Sea, and the lessons that can be applied for maritime patrol units.
• A full day dedicated to assessing the organic ISR capabilities for the naval commander, and how you can best employ these assets to enhance maritime domain awareness and compliment the use of fixed wing aircraft
• An exploration of the latest efforts to improve data fusion and dissemination to facilitate greater domain awareness and improve decision making within chains of command, with presentations from AFRICOM, US Naval Forces Europe-Africa, Cape Verde and NURC
