French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly said that despite Brexit, France will continue to assist the United Kingdom for the hydrodynamic tests of the Successor SSBN program. The minister made the declaration last week during a visit to French defense procurement agency (DGA) "Techniques Hydrodynamiques", a hydrodynamic test facility in Normandy with the largest towing tank in Europe.

Christopher Pyne MP, Minister for Defence Industry, at the ceremonial keel laying of the first Pacific Patrol Boat vessel for the Australian Government’s Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement (PPB-R) Project. Minister Pyne authenticated the keel by committing his signature to a plate that was subsequently welded and placed in the hull of the vessel.

The U.S. Navy commissioned its newest guided-missile destroyer, the USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), during a ceremony Saturday, July 29, at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego. USS Rafael Peralta honors Marine Corps Sgt. Rafael Peralta, who was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for actions during combat operations in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Peralta is credited with saving the lives of fellow Marines during the second battle of Fallujah in 2004.

Less than one week after Pres. Donald J. Trump commissioned the U.S. Navy's newest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) launched and recovered its first fixed-wing aircraft July 28, 2017, off the coast of Virginia. The first arrested landing, or "trap", occurred at 3:10 PM (EST) and the first catapult launch happened at 4:37 PM (EST).

In July, the “Mad Foxes” of Patrol Squadron (VP) 5 participated in Teamwork South 2017 (TWS-17) off the coast of South America. The bi-annual naval exercise hosted by Chile, held extra significance this year due to the centennial anniversary of the establishment of the Chilean submarine force. TWS-17 proved to be an opportunity to strengthen U.S. Naval Forces’ relationship with its Chilean partners, and improve interoperability between two high caliber navies.

Based on Japanese ship spotters pictures, the Asahi destroyer (25DD-class), the latest surface combatant designed for the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF), started sea trials. The images and video show the new first-of-class vessel during its initial sea trials which reportedly started July 6th and ended July 26th off Nagasaki in Southern Japan. The two vessels of the 25DD-class are built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in the Nagasaki shipyard.

General Atomics (GA) attended the U.S. Navy’s commissioning ceremonies of the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the first of a new class of technologically advanced aircraft carriers joining the Fleet. GA-EMS Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) are installed on CVN 78. In addition to the USS Gerald R. Ford, GA-EMS is the sole source provider of EMALS and AAG for the future John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) and Enterprise (CVN 80).
