Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) launches naval drills in Persian Gulf's gas fields
 
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a naval exercise in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday. According to the Press TV, the drills, code-named Fajr-91 (Dawn- 91) and planned to last four days, are conducted in the area of South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf. The South Pars/North Dome field is a natural gas condensate field located in the Persian Gulf, and is the world's largest gas field shared between Iran and Qatar.

The Boeing Co., Wichita, Kan., is being awarded a $145,000,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of two C-40A Clipper aircraft for the U.S. Navy. The Boeing C-40 Clipper is a military version of the Boeing 737-700C airline transport. It is used by both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force.

Laser guided Hammer air-to-ground weapon system qualified against moving targets at sea, on land
 
On December 12, 2012, French defense procurement agency DGA successfully carried out the last qualification firing test of the AASM modular air-to-ground missile developed and produced by Sagem (Safran), in its laser terminal guidance version (NATO designation: SBU-54 Hammer). This third and final test qualifies the laser guided version of AASM weapon system and provides the French Navy and Air Force with a new stand off anti-ship capability.

Russian Navy to Float Out New Borey Class SSBN Submarine on Dec. 30 2012
 
Russia’s Sevmash shipyard will float out a third Borey class strategic nuclear submarine, the Vladimir Monomakh, on December 30, Navy Commander Adm. Viktor Chirkov said on Wednesday. “The Vladimir Monomakh will be floated out on December 30 and its construction will continue as planned,” Chirkov said.

Russia’s Sevmash shipyard will float out a third Borey class strategic nuclear submarine, the Vladimir Monomakh, on December 30, Navy Commander Adm. Viktor Chirkov said on Wednesday. “The Vladimir Monomakh will be floated out on December 30 and its construction will continue as planned,” Chirkov said.

On the 5th of December, the Italian First of Class Carlo BERGAMINI Frigate shot 54 cannon rounds in the waters of La Spezia Gulf. Upon several firing sessions and qualification tests, performed at the Italian Naval Experimentation and Support Centre premises, for the first time the 127/64 Lightweight Gun System had been employed on board of a ship.

Western observers feel astonished at the speed of the development of China’s aircraft carrier and no longer doubt that China’s first aircraft carrier formation will debut in the near future.

Indian Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya (Gorshkov) now expected in last quarter of 2013
 
As informed by the Russian side the delivery of the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya (Gorshkov), after completion of repairs and sea trials, would be made in the last quarter of 2013. The aircraft carrier was subjected to extensive trials for the first time for 108 days from 8th June 2012 to 23rd September 2012, with a part of the Indian crew on board, undergoing training during the sea trials.

The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded us a contract worth £1.2bn for Audacious, the fourth submarine in the Astute class. The full contract covers the design, build, test and commissioning programme. First steel was cut in 2007 and Audacious is at an advanced stage of construction at BAE Systems’ site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

Ms. Lyn Glenn, daughter of John Herschel Glenn, Jr., the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth, and Mrs. Helen L. Toolan, wife of Lieutenant General John A. Toolan, Jr., Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force, were the honorees for the ceremony.

Marine Nationale vessels Type F70 AA, Anti-Aircraft Frigate "Cassard" and Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier "Charles de Gaulle" are set to receive a radar upgrade in 2013. Their existing radars will be replaced with the Thales SMART-S Mk2 3D multi-beam air and surface radar.
