Indonesian Army (TNI AD) unveils its new "KMC Komando" Fast Assault Craft
 
On April 29th 2014, the Indonesian Army unveiled a new model of Fast Assault Craft known as the Kapal Motor Cepat (KMC) Komando, manufactured by local shipbuilder PT Tesco Indomaritimin in collaboration with a group of technicians and experts from local universities. The KMC Komando shares several design attributes with Swedish built CB90-class fast assault craft.

Raytheon tests new passive seeker for Tomahawk Block IV cruise missile
 
Raytheon Company successfully completed a passive seeker test designed for a Tomahawk Block IV cruise missile using company-funded independent research and development investment. The captive flight test, using a modified Tomahawk Block IV missile nose cone, demonstrated that Raytheon's advanced, next-generation; multi-function processor can enable the cruise missile to navigate to and track moving targets emitting radio frequency signals.

General Dynamics Awarded $18 Billion by U.S. Navy for 10 Virginia-Class Submarines
 
The U.S. Navy today underscored its commitment to an advanced and adaptable submarine force by awarding General Dynamics Electric Boat a contract valued at $17.6 billion for the construction of 10 additional Virginia-class submarines. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.

Thales finalises delivery of MELTEM II CASA CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft to Turkey
 
Thales announces the delivery of the final standard for the maritime patrol aircraft to Turkey as part of the MELTEM II programme, for which Thales is the prime contractor. To this day, five of the six aircraft have been delivered to this standard, with the sixth set for delivery before the summer. This follows the three maritime surveillance aircraft which were sent to the Turkish coastguards last year.

On April 26th, 2014, a keel-laying ceremony in presence of Admiral Viktor Viktorovich Chirkov (Russian Navy's Commander-in-Chief) took place at Nevsky Shipyard for a new generation of Replenishment Oiler for the Russian Navy. Described by the shipyard as "Medium-sized sea tanker Academician Pashin” (Project 23130) the vessel is the first tanker to be built for the Russian Navy since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Drumgrange is pleased to announce it has been successful in delivering over a million pound contract to the Japanese Coast Guard. The contract, which was awarded in November 2013, was delivered to Tokyo, Japan on the 14th February 2014. This is a first for Drumgrange in the supply of AHD’s to the Japanese market and was achieved with the enormous support of its Japanese partner, Marubun Corporation, a Tokyo based trading house.Drumgrange’s Acoustic Hailing Devices have been designed for high speech intelligibility at distances up to 1500m both on land and at sea, making them the ideal communicator for naval applications, commercial security, CBRN, merchant shipping, emergency services, oil & gas platforms and port & border protection.

China's Aircraft Carrier Liaoning Will Undergo Its First Interim Maintenance
 
China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, returned to Dalian Shipyard dock to undergo its first interim service on April, 17, 2014. Experts predicted that the service will last for six months; comprehensive overhaul and maintenance will be conducted on the power, weapons, and other systems. Complex weapon systems require regular maintenance, and aircraft personnel also need to be trained and rest to maintain combat effectiveness.

The newest helicopter in the Royal Navy’s arsenal came through its toughest test yet as it spent a fortnight taking part in Europe’s biggest naval war games. Wildcat – which will provide the aerial eyes and punch of the Royal Navy’s frigates and destroyers for the next quarter of a century – joined HMS Dragon on Exercise Joint Warrior.

The first lot of DART/STRALES 76mm guided ammunition, produced by OTO Melara, was successfully tested at the end of March. The firing trials were conducted on board one of the Italian Navy’s ships equipped with Strales 76mm SR and Selex NA25 fire control system.

KONGSBERG will provide the C4I infrastructure solution for the CCM Mk 1 production contract, awarded to Oregon Iron Works, Inc. (OIW) in Clackamas, OR on February 10th, 2014. KONGSBERG will provide their C4I CORTEX system to fulfill the requirements of the program’s Tactical Computer System.

A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft was recently spotted at the Boeing headquarter's in Seattle conducting tests (including flight tests) with Raytheon's Advanced Airborne Sensor (AAS) fitted under the aircraft. Based on the existing AN/APS-149 Littoral Surveillance Radar System (LSRS), the AAS is designed to detect moving targets both on the surface of water and on land.

The construction of the 4 modules that are going to be built at PT PAL (Persero) Shipyard Surabaya and the two modules that are being built in Vlissingen, are proceeding according to schedule.

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) awarded Lockheed Martin a contract option worth approximately $10 million to support the Navy’s intermediate-level maintenance activities for all MK-48 torpedoes. This is the first option exercised from a contract awarded in 2013 and brings the total contract value to more than $18 million.

US Approves $250M contract for German Navy P-3C Maritime Patrol Aircraft Upgrade
 
The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Germany for P-3C aircraft upgrades and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $250 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on April 11, 2014.

U.S. Navy Christened USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), New Class of Destroyer
 
The U.S. Navy christened the USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) April 12, during a ceremony at General Dynamics-Bath Iron Works shipyard in Bath, Maine. The lead ship and class are named in honor of former Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral Elmo R. "Bud" Zumwalt Jr., who served as the 19th CNO from 1970-1974.

Northrop Grumman Corporation will build five additional U.S. Navy MQ-8C Fire Scout unmanned helicopters, which allow ship commanders to extend their intelligence-gathering capabilities far beyond the horizon. Final assembly of the aircraft will take place at the company's Unmanned Systems Center in Moss Point, Miss. The MQ-8C is based on a larger helicopter airframe that provides greater range, endurance and payload capacity over the currently fielded MQ-8B Fire Scout variant.

On 8th April 2014, the French DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement) successfully carried out the second qualification firing of the naval cruise missile (MdCN or Missile de Croisière Naval) currently under development by MBDA. The firing, which took place at the DGA’s Biscarrosse missile test centre (situated in the department of Landes in South West France) , was representative of a firing from a frigate and demonstrated the missile’s flight capabilities at high altitude.
