The Hellenic Navy has officially commissioned its newest HDW-HS Type 214 submarines during a ceremony held yesterday at the Hellenic Shipyards. The President of the Hellenic Republic, the Chiefs of Staff and officials attended the raise of the flags ceremony to the two vessels.

Hellenic Navy officially commissioned two Type 214 submarines
     
The submarines are the HS Matrozos (S-122) and HS Katsonis (S-123). HS Matrozos completed its trials at the end of 2015. It reached full operational capabilities in March 2016 and immediately assumed national and international missions. HS Katsonis will start its sea trials in the following days and is expected to be fully operational before the end of the year.

Upon the completion of the sea trials of HS Katsonis, the Submarines Command of the Hellenic Navy will have 11 units available. These will include four Type 214, one Type 209/1400AIP, three Type 209/1200 and three Type 209/1100.
