Thales launches Thales Emarat Technologies to support UAE Vision 2021

On the occasion of IDEX 2019, Thales and Tawazun Economic Council announced the creation of Thales Emarat Technologies, a local entity 100% owned by Thales. The company intends to foster its contribution to the UAE’s ambitions to become a global leader, with outstanding civil infrastructure and defence capabilities underpinned by a strong local industrial technology base to support growth, localization and the industrialization strategies of the UAE.

By leveraging Thales’s unique technological portfolio to benefit the UAE, Thales Emarat Technologies will foster the diversification of the local economy. This will in turn benefit Thales, by creating a new strategic node in the Group’s global network, which delivers digital technologies to the Group’s customers.

Thales Emarat Technologies commits to strongly invest in human capital by hiring and training a highly skilled local workforce. The target is to develop a talent pool of UAE Nationals. The training philosophy will focus on continuous growth of technical expertise and leadership models. This will require the establishment of strong links with educational bodies, Colleges and Universities, to attract young UAE talents. This continuous training model will have a beneficial knock-on effect on the country’s local talent pool, thus supporting the future of the UAE economy and sovereignty.

Thales Emarat Technologies will focus on critical systems such as radar, radio communications and a variety of defence aerospace technologies. It will be based on the development of local engineering capabilities and will benefit from the strategic transfer of technologies in these fields. Furthermore, the company will enable the localisation of specific maintenance and support operations closer to customers, thus improving response time and flexibility in customer care.

The Tawazun Economic Program is one of the key drivers of Tawazun Economic Council (Tawazun) and aims to enable the defence and security sector in the UAE, as well as contribute to its sustainable development. The Program promotes the transfer of modern and advanced technologies through offering facilitating and incentivizing packages to foreign key players in the industry.
