Pictures of the first prototype of the Chinese carrier based Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) plane JZY-01 have emerged on the Chinese internet. The new platform looks to be based on the Y-7 aircraft produced by Xian Aircraft Industrial Corporation, but modified for carrier operations.

The JZY-01 however may only be a test platform since both its dimension and weight seem to be too large for safe operation onboard the ex-Varyag aircraft carrier that Chinese Navy is currently testing at sea. It is possible that the JZY-01 is only a platform to run tests and work on radar integration.
