FR® case study: IRAQ & AFGHANISTAN
In response to the spike in IED related burn injuries in
2005-2006 in Iraq, the US Army and Marine Corps respectively conducted
formal, open solicitations and evaluation processes for fire resistant
fabrics. Over 30 fabric types, blends, constructions and weights were
evaluated.
Known problems with the existing flight suits and CVC coveralls were
that they felt hot and were not durable.
The military felt that these issues would be even more problematic
for ground Soldiers and Marines. So, the services solicited industry
for fabric that protected from burn injury at least as well as the
current uniforms. Additionally though, they wanted these fabrics to
wick moisture, breathe better and last longer than the incumbent.
Lenzing FR® military fabrics have proven superior when all of
the performance requirements are considered. Furthermore, it is more
economical.
Lenzing is committed to the principles of sustainable management and
very high environmental standards.
