Kongsberg showcased its NSM and JSM anti-ship cruise missiles at DSEI 2013

Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence Systems showcased its Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and Joint Strike Missile (JSM) during DSEI 2013, the International Defence & Security event in London, United Kingdom. The NSM is a flexible system which can be launched from a variety of platforms against a variety of targets. Based on the NSM, the JSM was designed specifically for the F-35, to be carried externally and internally in the weapons bay.

Naval Strike Missile
When searching for missiles for its new frigates and coastal corvettes, the Royal Norwegian Navy studied thoroughly existing missiles on the market and the planned upgrades of these. None of these missiles were found to satisfy the requirements of a modern navy well into 2015 and beyond. It was therefore decided to develop a completely new missile based on latest technology, the NSM.

NSM is a fifth generation long range precision strike already chosen by the Royal Norwegian Navy for its new frigates and new coastal corvettes and by the Polish Navy for use on its new coastal artillery installations.

Joint Strike Missile
Norway has decided to procure the F-35, the Joint Strike Fighter, manufactured by Lockheed Martin to replace its F-16s. The Royal Norwegian Air Force needs a modern weapon system for its new aircraft, and has decided to develop a new missile, the Joint Strike Missile, JSM, which can be carried externally and internally in the bomb bay of the F-35.

The JSM missile system is designed for both Anti Surface Warfare (ASuW) and Naval Fire Support (NFS) missions in open sea, littoral environment and over land.
