LIMA 2017: Southeast Asia Showed Interest in Russian Naval Hardware

"A number of potential customers from Southeast Asia displayed interest in acquiring Russian naval hardware and armaments, including submarines with missile complexes," he said.

Successful engagement of Russian warships in Syria increased the interest in the hardware on the international market. "After Russian Navy warships successfully accomplished the tasks of the counterterrorism fight in Syria the interest in Russian hardware which demonstrated absolute efficiency in super complicated combat conditions increased," Petukhov said.

Russia offers to potential foreign customers a number of warships the models of some of which are demonstrated at the show. They include, in particular, the Gepard-3.9 frigate created on the basis of an escort vessel of project 11661. The Vietnamese Navy operates two warships of the project.

The Gepard-3.9 frigates are designated to search, trace and fight surface, underwater and air targets of the adversary, carry out escort operations, patrol and protect maritime state border and exclusive economic zone.

Six patrol ships of project 22160 offered to foreign customers are currently being built for the Russian Navy. They are designated to defend territorial waters, patrol the 200-mile exclusive economic zone in open and landlocked seas, cut short contraband and pirate attacks, search and rescue vessels in distress.

The missile boat Molniya of project 12421 armed with Uran-E missile complex is designated to destroy warships, transport and landing vessels of the adversary in the open sea. Six boats of the project were built by Vietnam with Russian assistance and are operational in the Vietnamese Navy.
