The
Marina Militare (Italian Navy) is the maritime
force of the Forze Armate Italiane (Italian
Armed Forces).
The Italian Navy Fleet Command (CINCNAV) is reponsible
for 6 subordinate commands:
- COMFORAL: Major Surface Combatants and High Seas
command
- COMFORPAT: Corvettes, OPV and small surface combatants
command
- COMFORAER: Naval avitation (fixed and rotary wing)
command
- COMFORSBARC: Amphibious forces command
- COMFORDRAG: Mine Warfare command
- COMFORSUB: Submarine forces command
The Italian Navy has about 34,000 personnel, 80
vessels of all types and maintains a carrier based
naval aviation capability.
