CMN unveils the innovative C Sword 90 Stealth Corvette concept at EURONAVAL 2014 exhibition

On the occasion of the exhibition EURONAVAL 2014 which starts tomorrow near Paris, CMN unveils an innovative concept: the C SWORD 90 stealth corvette. This is the biggest warship ever designed by CMN. The C Sword 90 Corvette adopts an innovative hull and superstructure design with sloped surface.

CMN worked in collaboration with naval architect Thierry VERHAAREN to design the C-Sword 90 stealth corvette. It may be fitted with various weapon systems, such as 8x MBDA Exocet Block 3 anti-ship missiles, 16x VL MICA and 2x SIMBAD-RC SAMs, Oto Melara 76mm main gun... This corvette was especially designed to optimize its overall operational performance and in particular with extensive work on the hull lines. Nothing was left to chance, and each volume and each curve are adjusted to not allow any compromise between maneuverability, performance and resistance to sea.

Designed for the high intensity combat, the new flagship of CMN can act both on the high seas and coastal areas.

The hydrodynamics of the hull combines excellent seakeeping and speed performance as well as endurance.

The fore lines incorporate classical lines with spray rails and flare up to the weather deck to break the waves and avoid plunging and broaching and a slender stem with sharp entry lines benefiting speed performances. Above the weather deck, the topside design combines aesthetic and stealthiness.

This resolutely modern corvette does not concede to fashion or design trends, it is simply designed to operate in a safe and effective way.

The main missions of the C SWORD 90 corvette are Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations, deterrence, surface target engagement, anti-air and ASW operations as well as special forces support.

According to CMN, the C Sword 90 stands out as the first French warship proposed with phased aray radar. With four antennas, front and rear integrated mast radar that provides 360-degree continuous monitoring of the air and sea environment. It is the TRS4D CASSIDIAN, latest generation radar which has the advantage of integrating the transmitter in the antenna and contribute to the stealthiness of the ship.

Regarding the modularity of the platform: In its basic configuration, the CSWORD 90 can accommodate 2 large 11 meters RIBs or a toweed array sonar for ASW. According to customer needs the platform may be adapted to accomodate a 10t class helicopter in the hangar.

The decoy systems on the corvette are SYLENA Mk2 that provide protection against both radar or IR missile as well as protection against torpedo.

For guns, in addition to the 76mm main gun, the CSWORD 90 can accommodate any kind 30mm or 20mm remote weapon stations.

On the missile side, the C SWORD 90 is armed with eight MBDA MM40 Exocet Block 3, sixteen VL MICA and 2 SIMBAD RC.

Regarding anti-submarine warfare, once again the corvette may be fitted with different equipment suppliers depending on customer preference such sa THALES or ATLAS ELEKTRONIK.
