The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN or Tentera Laut DiRaja Malaysia; TLDM) ran a poll on its website to select the name of its future frigate class currently known as Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) / Second Generation Patrol Vessel (SGPV) program. The poll ran in November and December last year and is now closed.

Boeing Receives US Navy Contract for Next Generation Jammer Integration on EA-18G Growler

The U.S. Navy awarded Boeing a $308 million contract modification to provide Next Generation Jammer integration services for EA-18G Growler aircraft. The contract supports the Next Generation Jammer program's engineering phase, and also includes design and manufacturing tasks for 12 ECP 6472 kits, NGJ pod testing, and additional supporting equipment.

South Korea's KAI Receives Contract to Produce 30 KUH-1 Surion Helicopters in Amphibious Variant

KAI, or Korea Aerospace Industries, received a contract from South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) for the procurement of 30 KUH-1 Surion Helicopters in amphibious variant. The helicopters, to be delivered between 2017 and 2023 will help enhance the range of operation and mobility for the ROK Marine Corps, specifically from ROK Navy Dokdo class LPH.

Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) successfully tested a ship-based variant of its Sky Bow III (Tien Kung III) ballistic missile defense (BMD) interceptor in late 2016. The institute is is the primary research and development institution of the Republic of China Ministry of National Defense's Armaments Bureau.

On december 31st, 2016, the French Navy (Marine Nationale) Rubis-class nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) Emeraude clocked the 1000th day at sea for the class in 2016. It is the first time that the Rubis-class fleet spent so many days on patrol in a single year (a 10% increase compared to other years).
