First Unit of New Type 082A Mine Countermeasures Vessel Class Joins China's North Sea Fleet

The first ship of a new class (Type 082A) of Mine Countermeasures Vessels (MCMV) was commissioned in the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) on January 25th.

The U.S. Navy Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMNAVSURFPAC) just released a video to illustrate the Distributed Lethality Concept. The distributed lethality concept was introduced (and is being advocated) by Vice Admiral Thomas Rowden, the Commander of the U.S. Navy's surface forces. It can be summarized by fitting more weapons on more vessels in order to "deceive the enemy, target the enemy, and destroy the enemy".

The vessel nammed Rongcheng (hull number 811) joint the PLAN's North Sea Fleet and is based in Dalian city, northeast China’s Liaoning Province. The class is fully designed and made in China.

The 600 tons MCMV can deploy three 100-tons (submerged) remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for underwater minewarfare tasks, according to local media.
