US Navy Demonstrates 1st Launch of Spike Missiles from Unmanned Surface Vehicle
 
The Chief of Naval Operation's Expeditionary Warfare Division and the Naval Sea Systems Command's Naval Special Warfare Program Office successfully launched six Rafael Spike missiles from an unmanned surface vessel precision engagement module (USV PEM) on Oct. 24th, the first time the Navy has shot a Spike missile from an unmanned surface vessel.

New Moroccan Sigma class frigate Allal Ben Abdallah sails through Sea Acceptance Trials
 
Recently, the third and last of the Royal Moroccan Navy’s new Sigma class frigates was subjected to its Sea Acceptance Trials (SAT). All Thales systems on board of the ship as well as the functional chains for Anti Air Warfare, Anti Surface Warfare and Electronic Warfare performed flawlessly. Tacticos, Thales’s Combat Management System is the first CMS in the world to have been successfully teamed with the MBDA VL MICA. The ship was commissioned in September 2012.

The newest amphibious assault ship America (LHA 6) was christened Oct. 20 at a ceremony in Pascagoula, Miss. "When America joins the fleet, we'll be a stronger, more flexible, and a better Marine Corps team. We need this ship," said Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mark Ferguson during the ceremony.

The newest amphibious assault ship America (LHA 6) was christened Oct. 20 at a ceremony in Pascagoula, Miss. Austal lays Jackson (LCS 6) Keel, Third Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)
 
Austal held a keel-laying ceremony today for the third Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) – Jackson (LCS 6), one of five Austal-designed 127-metre US Navy Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ships under contract with the US Navy. Dr. Katherine Holmes Cochran, the ship’s sponsor, was present to weld her initials onto the keel plate as the Keel Authenticator. She was assisted by J.B. Craig, III, who is an “A” Class welder that has been part of the Austal team since November of 2011.

Raytheon Company has been awarded a $45.3 million U.S. Navy contract to provide MK 54 lightweight torpedo hardware, test equipment, spares and related engineering and repair services for U.S. fleet inventory and in support of foreign military sales to the Royal Australian Navy and the Indian Navy. The award represents an exercised option of a current Navy contract for MK 54 torpedo kits.

Finnish Navy orders 12 U700 amphibious assault craft
 
Finland's Ministry of Defense announced on October 15, 2012 it selected Marine Alutech Oy Ab shipyard for the delivery of 12 U700 amphibious assault craft (with an option for a possible order of additional units) in a contract worth around 34 million euros. The ships will be delivered in the years 2014-2016. Marine Alutech shipyard is a longtime contractor for the Ministry of Defence of Finland for construction of high-speed motor boats and small boats watercraft..

IRGC Commander: Iran's Speedboats Capable of Launching Cruise Missiles
 
Iran's speedboats have been equipped with the capability to fire different types of anti-ship cruise missiles, an Iranian defense official announced on Monday. "Our missiles have the capability of being launched from boats with the speed of over 30 knots, and these missiles include Zafar, Nasr, Nour and Qader," Deputy Defense Minister and Head of Iran's Aerospace Organization General Mehdi Farah told FNA, adding that "Qadir missiles" will also be added to the list in near future.

Royal Norwegian Navy fires NSM missiles from Skjold class corvette and Nansen class Frigate
 
On Wednesday October 10th 2012, Royal Norwegian Navy marked history by firing an NSM (Kongsberg's Naval Strike Missile) anti-ship missile from a surface vessel for the first time. The vessel in question was HNoMS Glimt, Skjold class coastal corvette. Five days later, on October 15th 2012, another NSM missile was launched from HNoMS Roald Amundsen, Nansen class Frigate. Both firing tests were reported as successful.

The drone, called Heron 1 (Shoval), will help improve Israel's Naval and Air Force's recognition of unknown or hostile ships and aircraft even if they are 300 km away, with a radar that can reach Turkey, Cyprus or Egypt.

F-35B Joint Strike Fighters with Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 from Eglin conducted the first air-to-air refuel of an operational aircraft in the program’s history. Previous aerial refueling operations with the F-35 had been conducted with test aircraft.
