Fincantieri launched Frigate “Carabiniere”, fourth FREMM for Italian Navy
 
On March 29th at the Riva Trigoso (Genoa) Fincantieri launched frigate “Carabiniere”, the fourth in a series of 10 FREMM - European Multi-Mission Frigates, commissioned from Fincantieri by the Italian Navy under the international cooperation between Italy and France, with the coordination of OCCAR, the joint organization for European cooperation in the field of armaments.

MBDA to develop FASGW(H)/ANL, next generation anglo-french anti-ship missile
 
MBDA welcomes the signature of the Demonstration and Manufacture contract for the FASGW(H)/ANL (Future Anti Surface Guided Weapon (Heavy)/ Anti Navire Léger) missile on 27th March 2014. This jointly funded Anglo-French contract, valued at more than £500 million (€600 million) has been awarded to MBDA by the UK DE&S (Defence Equipment & Support) on behalf of the French and UK MODs and will be managed as part of MBDA’s Team Complex Weapons Portfolio.

Damen-built Joint Support Ship Karel Doorman commissioned for the Royal Netherlands Navy
 
On Saturday, March 8th, Dutch Defence Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert ceremonially named the Karel Doorman, the new Joint Support Ship for the Royal Netherlands Navy. The ceremony took place in Vlissingen at the shipyard operated by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding. With a length of 204.7 metres, the Karel Doorman is the biggest ship in the Dutch navy.

Chinese Army Z-10 Attack Helicopter conducts trials at sea with Navy Type 072A Landing Ship
 
The Chinese Army (PLA) released some interesting pictures showing a Z-10 attack helicopter conducting deck trials at sea with a Chinese Navy (PLAN) Type 072A-class landing ship (NATO designation Yuting-III-class). The helicopter reportedly belongs to the 5th helicopter brigade of the 1st Army of the Nanjing Military Region while the vessel is from the East Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy (hull number 913 "Baxian Shan").

Bundeswehr, Rheinmetall & IAI/ELTA successfully test MASS & NavGuard ship protection systems
 
The Bundeswehr, Rheinmetall and the Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI) ELTA Group have successfully tested the MASS and NavGuard ship protection systems. The trials took place under the aegis of the German Navy in Howachter Bay in the Baltic at the end of October 2013. Also taking part in the trials was 2 Company, 92 Mechanized Infantry Battalion, a German Army unit based in Munster.

A a new Type 052D guided missile destroyer was delivered and commissioned to the People's Liberation Army Navy (Chinese Navy) on Friday. The warship "Kunming" with hull number 172, was officially handed over at a ceremony held at the port of Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) CO., Ltd in Shanghai.

Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) orders a new Stealth Fast Missile Patrol Vessel Trimaran
 
According to Indonesian media JakartaGreater, citing the Chief of Indonesian Navy, a new 63 meters Stealth Fast Missile Patrol Vessel (FMPV) trimaran will be ordered from shipbuilder North Sea Boats. The first vessel, KRI Klewang-625, was destroyed in a fire in September 2012 shortly after its launch.

The Royal Navy’s Wildcat, the maritime attack variant of the Lynx helicopter, is currently undergoing extensive trials with 700W Naval Air Squadron. As part of those trials, the aircraft has been working at the MOD’s aerial range in Cardigan Bay.

Thales and DCNS announce the comprehensive modernisation programme of the Colombian Navy’s four Almirante Padilla class frigates has been concluded with a successful Sea Acceptance Test of the class’s fourth ship. The contract with the Colombian authorities was signed early 2009, with DCNS acting as prime contractor and Thales as the lead systems integrator for the combat system and communications suite.

The award brings the total number of ships to be constructed by Bath Iron Works under a multi-year procurement to five, and the total value of the contract to approximately $3.4 billion. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works is a business unit of General Dynamics.

A commissioning, naming and flag-presenting ceremony of the new "Weihai" corvette (locally designated guided missile frigate) of the Chinese Navy (PLAN) was held was held at 10:45 of March 15, 2014 at a naval port in a base under the North China Sea Fleet of the PLAN, marking that the “Weihai” ship is officially commissioned to the North China Sea Fleet of the PLAN. "Weihai" is the eleventh Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class).

Ukraine to supply 50 BTR-4 armoured personnel carriers to Naval Forces of Indonesia (TNI AL)
 
In the end of 2014 in Djakarta the negotiations between Spectechnoexport management and representatives of Ministry of Defense and Naval Infantry of the Naval Forces of Indonesia were conducted. Within the negotiations the fundamental terms of the contract for the BTR-4 supply in quantity of 5 units were discussed. As a reminder, Spectechnoexport has won the tender for the purchasing armored vehicles for the purposes of Naval Forces of Indonesia offering BTR-4 manufactured by Kharkiv Morozov Machne-Building Design Bureau.

ROC Navy christens its first Catamaran Corvette "Tuo River"
 
Taiwan's first unit in a new class of 12 catamaran corvettes was christened Friday, The "Tuo River" was Christined during a cereomny held in Suao in northeastern Taiwan's Yilan county. The corvette will undergo a series of sea trials before its commissioning expected in the first half of 2015.

Thales to supply mission suite for Polish Patrol Vessel ORP SLAZAK

The latest images of FREMM Normandie sea trials released by DCNS show for the first time the Narwhal Remote Weapon System installed on a French Navy FREMM. Building on its experience gained with light naval mounts for small craft (15A/15B) and with technologies implemented for turreted canon for helicopters, Nexter Systems developed the remote-controlled naval gun mount known as Narwhal in the 20mm configuration.

The ship is named after the Honorable John Glenn for his exceptional and decorated service as a U.S. Marine Corps pilot, astronaut and U.S. Senator. Construction of the USNS John Glenn began in April 2012.
