Northrop Grumman's MQ-8C Fire Scout Prepares for Shipboard Testing
 
Northrop Grumman Corporation successfully completed precision sloped landing tests Aug. 27 with the MQ-8C Fire Scout at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, in preparation for at-sea testing. MQ-8C Fire Scout has been undergoing rigorous flight testing and validation, which will culminate in the actual takeoff and landing on the deck of a Navy vessel at-sea. The MQ-8C is the company's latest variant of its successful Fire Scout unmanned aerial system, which performs intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions for the U.S. Navy.

Raytheon SM-6s Missiles intercept targets in 'engage on remote' tests
 
During the U.S. Navy's Combat Ship System Qualification Trials, the USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) tested two Raytheon Company Standard Missile-6 interceptors against anti-ship and cruise missile targets. As part of 'engage on remote' scenarios, the ship launched the SM-6 interceptors prior to its own radars 'seeing' the incoming threats, using targeting information from another Aegis ship in the area—the USS Sampson (DDG 102).

The airborne capabilities of Thailand’s navy will be significantly enhanced with the acquisition of the mission-ready Airbus Helicopters light-utility EC645 T2 rotorcraft. Royal Thai Air Force also signed for two EC725 helicopters. The Royal Thai Navy signed for five EC645 T2s to be deployed on transport duties and other missions, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2016.

BAE Systems signs $50 million contract for Nulka anti-ship missile defence systems
 
BAE Systems has secured a 16th successive annual contract to produce additional rounds for the Nulka active missile decoy. Valued at approximately $50 million, the latest follow-on order will involve making decoy rounds for the Royal Australian Navy and the United States Navy, bringing the total number of rounds supplied by BAE Systems to more than 1,400.

Lockheed Martin-Led Team Launches Future USS Detroit Littoral Combat Ship (LCS 7)
 
The Lockheed Martin-led industry team launched the nation's seventh Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), Detroit, into the Menominee River at the Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC) shipyard. The ship’s sponsor, Mrs. Barbara Levin, christened Detroit with the traditional smashing of a champagne bottle across the ship's bow just prior to the launch.

The U.S. Navy's second MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system (UAS) has successfully completed its first flight. Operating out of a manufacturing facility in Palmdale, a Navy and Northrop Grumman flight test team conducted the 6.7-hour flight Oct. 15. The flight is a critical first step in preparing the aircraft to fly to a Navy facility in Maryland later this month.

The Guest-of-Honour was His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harub Al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman.

Production of the UK Royal Navy’s new Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) has started Friday, October 10, with the first steel cut at BAE Systems in Glasgow. Bernard Gray, the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Chief of Defence Material, formally started construction by operating the plasma steel cutting machine that began shaping the steel for the first of three new ships to be built at the company’s facility in Govan.

The French Navy announced yesterday that the Cassard class Anti-Aircraft Frigate Jean Bart (D615) set sail from Toulon naval base for a deployement in the Persian Gulf. The Frigate will provide air control for coalition aircraft conduction missions over Iraq against ISIL.

First Type 214 SSK built in Greece, S-121 "Pipinos" was launched for Hellenic Navy
 
The second of a total of four Type-214 submarine (the first of the class built in Greece) S-121 "Pipinos" was launched at Hellenic Shipyard in Skaramanga, Attica. The launching and naming ceremony of the submarine was held in presence of the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos and several Hellenic Navy officers.

The Ocean Sentry is based on the Airbus CN235 tactical airlifter with more than 235 currently in operation by 29 countries. This is the last HC-144A’s planned for delivery this year.

On Friday, 3 October, the Dassault Aviation plant in Mérignac (France) delivered to the French defense procurement agency (DGA) the Rafale M10, the first of a tranche of ten retrofitted Rafale “Marine” (Navy) aircraft. These ten Rafale aircraft (M1 to M10) were produced from the late 1990s to replace the F-8 Crusaders aircraft that provided air defense for the French navy since 1964. As this replacement could not wait for the service entry of the versatile F2 and F3 standards, the ten Rafale Marine were provided with a so-called basic F1 standard, limited to superiority and air defense missions only.

Japan Maritime Self Defense Force DDH183 Izumo Helicopter Destroyer Started Sea Trials
 
A video from Japan emmerged showing the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) future helicopter carrier DDH138 Izumo first shakedown cruise at Uraga Channel (Tokyo Bay). Izumo will become the flagship of the JMSDF fleet and is the largest warship built by Japan since World War II. The 248-meter-long and 19,500-ton helicopter carrier was unveiled for the first time in August 2013 in Yokohama and is set to be commissioned into service in 2015.

On September 30, 2014, Austal USA successfully completed the launch process of Trenton (JHSV 5) - the second Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV) launched by Austal in 2014. This 103-meter high-speed catamaran represents the U.S. Department of Defense’s next generation multi-use platform. It is part of a 10-ship program worth over US$1.6 billion.
