U.S. Navy Seriously Considering Distributed Lethality for its Amphibious Forces
 
The US Navy is planning to transform every surface unit into a “floating armoury”, which will be capable of firing weapons under the distributed lethality concept. In an A2AD environment, especially in the Asia-Pacific theatre or areas such as the Persian Gulf or the Black Sea, surface units will have to use most of their weapons defending them, leaving fewer payloads for offensive operations.

Airbus Helicopters hands over first two H145M Helicopters to Royal Thai Navy
 
With today´s successful technical acceptance, Airbus Helicopters has handed over the first two of five lightweight military multi-role H145M helicopters to the Royal Thai Navy. This marks an important milestone in the H145M programme on its way to the final acceptance and entry into service in Thailand at the end of 2016. A delegation from the Royal Thai Navy and Airbus Helicopters Germany CEO Wolfgang Schoder participated in the ceremony at Airbus Helicopters´ Donauwörth site.

The U.S. Navy's Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) has awarded Raytheon Company up to $104 million to conduct operations and maintenance for the Relocatable Over-the-Horizon Radar (ROTHR) program. ROTHR is a long-range surveillance radar used by the U.S. government in counter narco-terrorism operations. Raytheon designed and built ROTHR and will provide operations support, modernization and maintenance of the radar system.

Future Independence Class Littoral Combat Ship USS Montgomery Completes Builder’s Trials
 
The future USS Montgomery (LCS 8) successfully completed phase two of its [A1] builder's trials, which included extensive testing of the Twin Boom Extensible Crane system, April 21. The builder, Austal USA, will perform any remaining corrective actions required of the ship in preparation for acceptance trials, to be conducted by the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) later this spring.

The offensive tactical airborne capability of the Royal Australian Navy was demonstrated recently when 725 Squadron conducted firings of the AGM-114N Hellfire missile from MH-60R Seahawk ‘Romeo’ helicopters. Commanding Officer 725 Squadron, Commander Matt Royals, said the live firings provide important tactical training.

Hellenic Navy launched ancient trireme Olympias back to sea
 
The Hellenic Navy has launched trireme Olympias back to sea after a period of repairs. A successful test sail took place on Tuesday 19 April before the ship took its place again at the Museum of Naval Tradition at Faliro area in Athens. The crew consisted of 170 cadets from the Naval Academy and the Naval Academy of Non-Commissioned Officers.

Egypt wants to purchase Russian-made radio electronic equipment for Mistral LHDs
 
Egypt has asked Russia to deliver radio electronic equipment for the Mistral-class helicopter carriers, which Cairo has purchased from France, a military and diplomatic source told TASS on Wednesday. "The Egyptian military delegation that held talks with Russia’s arms exporter Rosoboronexport said that it wanted to mount Russian-made radio electronic equipment, including electronic warfare systems, on the Mistral-class ships purchased from France and asked Russia to deliver it," the source said.
