"HMS Duncan" Royal Navy’s 6th Type 45 Destroyer enters service four months ahead of schedule
 
The ship was scheduled to enter service in early 2014, but thanks to the hard work of both the ship’s company and industry since her arrival in Portsmouth, HMS Duncan is ready to take up duties now. The 7,500 tonne vessel will now embark on a programme of trials to prepare the ship and her crew for operational deployment.

US Navy orders 200 AGM-154C-1 Joint Standoff Weapons (JSOWs) from Raytheon

Indian Navy to purchase 262 Barak-I Naval Point Defense Missile System for its fleet
 
Indian Defense Ministry recently cleared a proposal to buy 262 Barak-I Point Defense Missiles from Israel for the Indian Navy. The Barak-1 missile is already in use onboard 14 Indian Navy warships, including the Shivalik-class frigates and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat. The system is also planned to be fitted on the newest Indian Navy aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.

Landing Ship Project 11711 "Ivan Gren" to join Russian Navy in 2015
 
The Yantar shipyard in the Russia’s western-most region, Kaliningrad, said Tuesday that the delivery of a new large landing ship to the Russian navy had been delayed until 2015. “The mooring trials are expected to begin in August-September of 2014, while the delivery of the ship to the navy is planned for 2015,” said Yantar spokesman Sergei Mikhailov.

Chinese Navy (PLAN) tests Liaoning Aircraft Carrier combat capability
 
China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, has conducted more than 100 tests and training tasks since early December, when it began a training mission in the South China Sea, the navy said on Sunday. "The Liaoning successfully performed several tests of the combat system today and organized for the first time comprehensive combat training," the People's Liberation Army navy said in a statement. "Through this operation, we tested the carrier's combat capability and tried the performance of its propulsion and seaworthiness."
China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, has conducted more than 100 tests and training tasks since early December, when it began a training mission in the South China Sea, the navy said on Sunday. "The Liaoning successfully performed several tests of the combat system today and organized for the first time comprehensive combat training," the People's Liberation Army navy said in a statement.

Successful completion of builder’s trials marks the end of the first phase of a set of rigorous trials during which all of the ship’s systems and capabilities are evaluated to ensure they are in accordance with its plans and specifications.

Fincantieri delivers Second Italian FREMM Frigate “Virginio Fasan”
 
The delivery of the Italian FREMM “Virginio FASAN”, the first in ASW configuration, was held yesterday at the FINCANTIERI shipyard in Muggiano (La Spezia). The FASAN was delivered to the Customer with an outstanding state of readiness. All the scheduled complex and meaningful operations were performed in due time. Within the current framework of the FREMM Programme for Italy eight vessels are included and an option for additional two, which has still to be exercised.

São Paulo catapult: A DCNS team on the bridge of the Brazilian Navy aircraft carrier
 
At the request of the Brazilian Navy, DCNS performed a ship check on the forward catapult of the aircraft carrier São Paulo. The steam catapult, which already performed over 5000 launches, is a key element for the aircraft carrier capability. The goal of this intervention was to perform diagnostics and trials for the Brazilian Navy to restore the catapult’s potential.

Originally built for the Russian Navy as a modified Kiev class aircraft carrier, called Baku in 1987, India procured her in 2004 and she was accepted by the Indian Navy in a commissioning ceremony in November 2013.

Upgraded AB212 Helicopter of the Spanish Navy’s 3rd Squadron takes flight
 
On December 17, the helicopter used as prototype in the AB212 Helicopter Life Extension Program of the Spanish Navy (PEVH-AB212) took to the air for its first test flight. This flight is the first in a series of tests approved by the INTA (National Institute for Aerospace Technology), which were authorized through special experimental airworthiness certification (CAE in its Spanish acronym).

The Cameroon Navy has taken delivery of two new 24-meter ARESA 2400 CPV Defender and one new 23-meter ARESA 2300 LD Craft to help the force safeguard their maritime domains.

ATLAS ELEKTRONIK GmbH has been commissioned by the Korean yard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) with the supply and integration of a bow sonar (ASO) as well as a low-frequency active towed array sonar (ACTAS) for a new frigate of the Royal Thai Navy. Delivery of the systems is planned to take place early in 2016.

The People's Liberation Army Navy (Chinese Navy) released some pictures showing one of its newer Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao Class) test firing a YJ-83 anti-ship missile. The ship involved in the test is first of class corvette Bengbu (hull number 582) which was commissioned in March 2013. Corvette Bengbu is deployed with the PLAN's East Sea Fleet (Homeport: Zhoushan naval base).
