Russia`s 'Admiral Nakhimov' heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser of Project 11442M (NATO reporting name: Kirov-class) is waiting for hull rebuilding works. The rebuilding will change the design of the ship: the missile deck and the superstructure that incorporates the conning room, the combat information center and antenna farm will be modified (the later in a partial manner). The large-scale works are required to integrate advanced weapon systems. The rebuilding of the hull may lead to the shift of the delivery date of the ship, according to the Izvestia newspaper.

On 16th October, the Belgian Navy released an official report from Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) on the Mine Warfare sea exercise held at Zeebrugge Naval Base during the Belgian Defense Technology & Industry Day in June 2017. During the trials, Thales successfully demonstrated the performances of SAMDIS Multi-view Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) system integrated onboard an ECA A27 AUV platform, in the harsh conditions encountered in the North Sea.

HIMARS MLRS Test Fired from US Navy LPD USS Anchorage
The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) was fired from the flight deck of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23) during Dawn Blitz 2017 Oct. 22. The HIMARS is a weapons system made up of the M142, five-ton chassis vehicle and can carry either a launcher pod of six rockets or one MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).

Development of New Ekranoplan Type GEV for Russia`s Navy is underway
A super-heavy transport-landing ground effect vehicle (GEV) being capable of sea (like its predecessors) and ground landing is being developed for Russia`s military. The dimensions of the GEV will be comparable with those of the KM ground effect vehicle - the base for the Project 903 (Lun) aerial vehicle - that was known well in the Soviet age. The GEV is planned to be used in the Arctic region and in the Pacific for search-and-rescue operations and logistics support of remote bases, according to the Izvestia newspaper.

The General Dynamics Mission Systems’ Knifefish team successfully completed contractor trials for the U.S. Navy’s Knifefish program, a mine countermeasure (MCM) unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV). The Knifefish UUV operated in multiple mine test target fields at-sea using buried, bottom and volume type mine-test targets. The Knifefish system successfully demonstrated its ability to detect, classify and identify potential mines, at a variety of depths, each of which would pose a unique threat to naval vessels operating in a mission area.

Kongsberg Maritime has been selected to deliver ST2400 VDS (Varial Depth Sonar) systems for Anti-Submarine Warfare applications (ASW) to the Royal Swedish Navy as part of SAAB’s upgrade program for the Göteborg-Class Corvettes fleet. The main purpose of the ST2400 VDS is to detect submarines, mines and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles in Littoral waters. The ST2400 VDS upgrade will strengthen the Göteborg-Class Corvettes Anti-Submarine capability operating in the Baltics.

Russia`s Project 12341 Ovod-class (NATO: Nanuchka-class) small missile ships (corvettes) have received the unique Bagira artillery fire control system (FCS) that allows engagement of ground, surface and even aerial targets in a matter of seconds by day and night in all weather conditions. The Bagira detects targets, recognizes them via radars and an optical-electronic system and destroys an object by operator command in automatic mode. The system adjusts firing before each shot, considering several dozen of various parameters, according to the Izvestia newspaper.
