The U.S. Navy completed the first series of developmental and operational testing (DT/OT) of Raytheon Company's Rolling Airframe Missile Block 2. In at-sea tests conducted from the U.S. Navy's Self-Defense Test Ship, RAM Block 2 missiles engaged two targets in tactical dual-salvo scenarios designed to demonstrate the advanced missile's defensive capabilities.

Thales awarded milestone Royal Navy services contract
 
Thales UK has today signed a 10-year contract with the Ministry of Defence (MOD), worth up to £600M, for the in-service support of the Royal Navy’s major sensor systems. The new Sensors Support Optimisation Project (SSOP) builds on the proven success of Thales’s Contractor Logistics Support contract, originally signed in 2003, which has provided support to the Royal Navy’s sonar and electronic warfare systems for the past 10 years.

The US Navy successfully completed tests of the Rolling Airframe Block 2 missile at the Navy's Pacific Missile Test Range, May 10. The missiles were launched from a Self Defense Test Ship operated by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme and intercepted turbojet-powered targets emulating enemy anti-ship cruise missiles.

Third Damen Stan Patrol Spa 4207 patrol vessel for Mexican Navy
 
The Mexican Navy has contracted Damen Shipyards Group for the design and material package of a Damen Stan Patrol 4207, including technical assistance. May 22, marking the start of tests which will validate the Northrop Grumman-built system for future fleet operations.

This Italian law enforcement agency, deals with financial crime, smuggling Illigal Immigration and narco traffic and maintains a fleet of about 250 vessels.

The class incorporates stealth technology, which has considerably reduced its radar and infrared signatures.

Australia renews interest in MQ-4C Triton UAS Unmanned Aircraft System
 
The Australian Ministers for Defence and Defence Materiel announced May 15 that the government of Australia will enter into a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) planning case with the U.S. Navy for the MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). The FMS planning case will help Australian defense officials assess the applicability of Triton’s capabilities to their high-altitude, long-endurance UAS for maritime patrol and other surveillance requirements.

Naming ceremony of fuel cell submarine “U36” for the German Navy in Kiel
 
One of the most modern non-nuclear submarines in the world was named today at the shipyard of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems GmbH, a company of ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions AG, under the name of “U36”. This marks another important milestone in the ongoing shipbuilding programme for the German Navy. U36 is the second boat of the second batch of HDW Class 212A submarines destined for operation in the German Navy. The German town of Plauen has assumed sponsorship for U36. The ultra-modern submarine was named by Silke Elsner, companion to the Mayor.

Australia and Sweden have achieved a "significant milestone agreement" relating to Intellectual Property rights for submarine design and technology, Defence Minister Stephen Smith said in a statement on Thursday. According to the joint statement with Sweden's Minister for Defence Karin Enstrom, this followed extensive negotiations between Australia's Defence Materiel Organisation and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration.

Saab promotes its "Sea Gripen", a possible naval variant of the Gripen NG fighter jet
 
Besides Brazil, Saab identified future demand for naval fighters in countries like India, Italy and the UK, which, in the coming years will be commissioning new aircraft carriers in their navies. South Korea and the United States started on Monday two-day joint naval exercises off the east coast involving a US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, South Korean media reported. Earlier in the day, the 97,000-ton USS Nimitz (CVN 68) left the southeastern port of Busan for the drills with South Korea's navy in the East Sea near Pohang, the Yonhap news agency quoted a senior military official as saying.
