Rheinmetall receives order from South Korea: MASS naval countermeasures system for LST-II-class
 
The ROK Navy is procuring Rheinmetall’s MASS, the Düsseldorf-based company’s state-of-the-art decoy system for frigates, corvettes, minesweepers and patrol boats, for installation on its new Landing Ship, Tank vessels (LST-II). The South Korean Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) contracted with Samsung-Thales Co. Ltd. of Seoul to equip the ships. The basis for this is a license agreement between Rheinmetall and Samsung-Thales. Total order volume comes to around €7 million.

In their new Naval Equipment catalog, they introduced several new vessel designs.

US Navy launches official Request for Information (RFI) for F/A-XX strike fighter
 
The US Navy has launched mid-April an official RFI for the F/A-XX carrier-based strike fighter. The F/A-XX is intended to replace both F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter and EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft currently in service in the US Navy by the years 2030ies.

The Indian Navy officially commissionned Russia’s K-152 Nerpa nuclear-powered attack submarine on Wednesday. The Project 971 Shchuka-B (NATO: Akula II) class sub has been leased to India’s Navy for ten years in a contract worth over $900 million. It was handed over to India in January and has been renamed the INS Chakra.

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) today announced that its marine arm, Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine) has secured a contract worth €534.8m (about S$880m) to design and build four patrol vessels (PVs) and the provision of associated logistic support for the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO).

French Navy's Air Warfare Destroyers successfully intercept supersonic sea-skimming target
 
On April 4, 2012, the Forbin Air Defense Destroyer destroyed a supersonic target simulating an antiship missile at very low altitude. The target, a GQM 163A Coyote, was launched from the French Military's Missile Test Center based on the island of Levant (French Riviera). The Forbin, head of Horizon class AAW Destroyer, intercepted the target in flight with its Aster 30 missile while Chevalier Paul, second ship of Horizon class, was tracking both the target and the missiles launched by Forbin.
