INS Kiltan (P30), third Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) stealth corvettes built under Project 28 (Kamorta Class) was commissioned into the Indian Navy by Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman at an impressive ceremony held at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam today, 16 October 2017.

Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) visited Kochi on 12 October 2017 to review the progress of construction of the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC)- "Vikrant" at the Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL), Kochi. On his arrival, he was received at the naval air station, INS Garuda by Vice Admiral AR Karve, AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Southern Naval Command.

States participated in a live-fire integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) scenario, defending against a ballistic missile target as well as three anti-ship cruise missiles Oct. 15 as part of exercise Formidable Shield 2017 (FS17). Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) is conducting Formidable Shield on behalf of the U.S. 6th Fleet. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency is also a major participant in this exercise.

The U.S. Department of the Navy recently declared the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) C-1 ready for full operational capability. All U.S. squadrons are now outfitted with JSOW C-1, the Navy’s first air-to-ground network-enabled weapon capable of attacking stationary land and moving maritime targets.
 

Japan MHI launched the Second 25DD/Asahi-class ASW Destroyer "Shiranui" for JMSDF

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Nagasaki shipyard held the launch ceremony for the second (and last) 25DD/Asahi-class ASW Destroyer. The vessel, named "Shiranui" (hull number DD-120) will join first ship of the class "Asahi" in Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) service. Asahi started sea trials in July 2017.
 

General Atomics Awarded Contract for Ford-class EMALS and AAG Spares

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) announced today that it has been awarded a definitized delivery order for the first set of on board repair parts (spares), providing sustainment support to the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) system on the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). This delivery order also provides spares to support the AAG land-based site at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.
 

Block III Virginia-Class Submarine USS Washington - SSN 787 - Commissioned in the US Navy
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division today celebrated the christening of the future USS Washington (SSN 787), the 14th Virginia-class submarine. Ship sponsor Elisabeth Mabus, daughter of Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, smashed a bottle of sparkling wine, dipped in the waters of Washington’s Puget Sound, across the bow to mark the christening of the submarine named for the Evergreen State. The U.S. Navy with assistance from the submarine's sponsor Elisabeth Mabus, daughter of the 75th Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, commissioned and brought to life the newest Virginia class submarine, USS Washington (SSN 787), during a ceremony on board Naval Station Norfolk, Oct. 7.
 

Leonardo to provide Information Management software for Australian Navy Collins-class submarines

Leonardo has been awarded a contract by the Commonwealth of Australia’s Department of Defence to deliver Information Management software to six Collins-class submarines operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The contract, called ‘Submarine Communication Information Exchange Management’ (SCIEM), is part of Australia’s Project SEA1439 Phase 5B2 upgrade programme. Leonardo will be providing its SmartIDMS™ software application, that is designed and manufactured in the UK and will allow RAN crews to upload and download data in a sophisticated, managed way when the submarine connects to a network.

The 'Velikiy Novgorod' and 'Kolpino' Project 636.3 submarines of the Black Sea Fleet have launched 10 3M-14 Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles (SLCM) in two salvoes against the targets of the Islamic State (IS, forbidden in Russia) terroristic grouping in Syria, according to the Department of Information and Mass Communications of Russia`s Ministry of Defense (MoD).
