Indian Navy Commissions third Saryu class Offshore Patrol Vessel INS “SUMEDHA”
 
The maritime security of India got a significant boost today with the induction of state-of-the-art new generation Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel (NOPV), INS ‘SUMEDHA’, indigenously designed in-house and built by Goa Shipyard Limited. The Vessel was formally commissioned into the Indian Navy by VAdm Anil Chopra, PVSM, AVSM, FO C-IN-C East on 7th March 2014 at an impressive ceremony held at the Goa Shipyard Ltd.

Iran to Unveil New Home-Made Fateh 500 tons Submarine Soon
 
According to Fars News quoting Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, Iran's new home-made submarine, Fateh, will be unveiled in the next few months. “Following the construction of Qadir (class) submarine by the Iranian Navy experts, Fateh submarine will be unveiled early next (Iranian) year (to start on March 20),” Sayyari said in the Southern city of Bushehr on Sunday.

Egyptian Navy would be about to order 4 to 6 Gowind Combat Corvettes from DCNS
 
According to French financial newspaper La Tribune, the Egyptian Navy is about to order 2 Gowind class corvettes plus two in option. The corvettes selected by Egypt would be of the "Combat" type as the vessels are set to be fitted by MBDA's VL Mica surface to air and Exocet anti-ship missiles. The Royal Malaysian Navy already selected the Gowind Combat and will get 6 vessels of the type starting around 2020.

NUSHIP Canberra, the first of two Landing Helicopter Dock ships being built for the Australian Defence Force, sailed yesterday for the first time under her own propulsion as part of the sea trials and testing program. Canberra departed the BAE Systems dockyard at Williamstown where the ship will undergo a series of tests to prove systems and equipment prior to being handed over to Navy.

Italian Navy Receives its Third FREMM Frigate “Carlo Margottini”
 
Today, two months after the final acceptance of the FoC ASW Virginio Fasan, the Italian Navy has enlarged the existing fleet with the third FREMM Frigate, Carlo MARGOTTINI. The ceremony was held at the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano, La Spezia (Italy). The FREMM Margottini is in Anti Submarine Warfare configuration as well as Fasan.

Second made in Ukraine Zubr class LCAC for Chinese Navy rushed for delivery following crisis
 
According to eyewitnesses and pictures, on March 1st, 2014 in Feodosiya, Crimea, the second Zubr (project 1232.2) amphibious hovercraft for the Chinese Navy (PLAN) was rushed on its way to China ahead of schedule (before all trials were conducted). The obivous reason of this sudden move was to avoid any damage to the vessel in case the situation in Crimea deteriorated.

Design of future Damen SIGMA 9814 Corvettes for Vietnamese Navy revealed
 
During Vietship 2014 Nava Exhibition in Vietnam, Dutch shipyard Damen unveiled for the first time the design of the Sigma 9814 Corvette ordered by Vietnam. It was announced in October 2011 that Damen shipyard in Vlissingen, Netherlands will build four Sigma corvettes for the Vietnamese Navy. The first two ships will be built in Vlissingen (Netherlands), and the last two (options) will be built in Vietnam, under Dutch supervision.

Raytheon, U.S. Navy test Tomahawk Block IV's latest communications upgrades
 
Raytheon Company and the U.S. Navy have successfully tested communications advancements to the Tomahawk Block IV cruise missile. During a Feb. 19 flight test, a Raytheon-built Tomahawk Block IV missile, launched from the USS Sterett, flew a preprogrammed route while receiving updates from a simulated maritime operations center and from advanced off-board sensors updating the missile's target location. Throughout the flight, the missile maintained communications with all the command and control assets and provided updates on its location before hitting the target.
