Navy orders 12 U700 amphibious assault craft
Finland's
Ministry of Defense announced on October 15, 2012 it selected Marine
Alutech Oy Ab shipyard for the delivery of 12 U700 amphibious assault
craft (with an option for a possible order of additional units) in a
contract worth around 34 million euros. The ships will be delivered
in the years 2014-2016. Marine Alutech shipyard is a longtime contractor
for the Ministry of Defence of Finland for construction of high-speed
motor boats and small boats watercraft.

U700 class vessels are high-speed water craft for
operations in coastal waters. The boat is designed primarily for the
transportation and landing of personnel, but also due to the modular
design can be used for a wide range of applications, including military
tasks - when installing weapons. With a length of 19 meters and a width
of 5 meters the vessel may carry 32 people, 25 of them Soldiers in full
gear, placed in individual seats.
The is equipped for long duration missions, with the presence onboard
of latrines, heating and cooling, kitchen, as well as special places
for storring soldiers' equipment, weapons and ammunition. The vessel
has a maximum speed of 40 knots. The hull and superstructure have ballistic
protection and are protected against NBC warfare agents with filtration
system. The class will be equipped with modern sensor and navigation
system. Weapons include a remotely controlled weapons turret with 12.7-mm
machine gun.
