India's Goa Shipyard Launches First Fast Patrol Vessel for Mauritius Coastguard
 
In a new chapter in Indo-Mauritian Defence Co-operation, Mrs Smita Parsekar, wife of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar launched the First Fast Patrol Vessel, MCGS VICTORY (50 meter length) designed and built in house by Goa Shipyard Limited for Mauritius Coast Guard on 29th Feb 2016 at GSL in an impressive ceremony.

RAdm Shekhar Mital, CMD, GSL Said, “Contract of the vessel was signed on 17 May 2014, while the keel of this vessel was laid on 18 Dec 2014. Launching of first of the series vessel, within 14 months of keel laying is a record in itself. He assured that the vessel as per the track record of GSL, will be delivered ahead of the contractual schedule of Sept 2016.” CMD thanked Ministry of Defence, State Government and local authorities for providing all the necessary assistance, which has enabled GSL to achieve new milestones in the performance.

This vessel is primarily designed for Coastal Patrolling, Anti-piracy, Anti-smuggling, Anti-drug Surveillance, Anti-poaching Operations, and Search and Rescue Operations.The vessel is fitted with 30 mm CRN-91 Gun, 12.7 mm HMGs & 7.62 mm MMGs besides state-of-the-art Navigation and Communication equipment and is capable of achieving a high speed of 35 knots.
