Admiral Kuznetsov Aircraft Carrier Upgrade Implies Strengthening its Air Wing - USC President
The modernization of the Project 11435 (NATO reporting name: Kuznetsov-class) Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier implies improving its control systems and beefing up its air wing, United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) President Alexei Rakhmanov has told the Rossiya 24 television channel in an interview.

"Probably, this will heavily boost the ship’s capabilities in terms of control systems. Unfortunately, we will be unable to change it in concept and in essence," he said. "Then, certainly, the new air wing recently assigned to the carrier will have to be strengthened and given extra capabilities."
Rakhmanov emphasized that the Russian Defense Ministry would issue open tenders for the upgrade of the carrier.
"I hope that our company will win the competition and land the order," the USC president added. Previously, the media, referring to USC Vice President for Military Shipbuilding Igor Ponomaryov, had reported that the carrier would be repaired and modernized in 2018 after it returned from its cruise.
