In the framework of the Franco-British cooperation, a delegation of British officers was received on board the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle currently deployed in the eastern Mediterranean to participate in Operation Chammal. The British officers are responsible for the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier program. According to the French Navy (Marine Nationale), the goal of their visit was to observe the use of a carrier strike group (CSG) in real conditions in order to enrich their analytical work.

After a presentation of the current mission of the CSG and its previous campaigns (late 2015 and early 2016), the delegation visited the various installations on board to see the composition of a CSG, the command structure aboard, the operation of the air wing, the logistics autonomy of the aircraft carrier and the extent of its maintenance capabilities. They also witnessed the launch and recovery of aircraft leaving or returning from operational missions.

These various presentations made it possible to showcase the assets of the Charles de Gaulle and its use in operations. In particular, the crews emphasized the close link between the aircraft carrier and its air wing as well as the strategic and operational role of this versatile tool, which reinforces the intelligence gathering, anticipation and intervention capabilities of France.

According to the French Navy, the British delegation showed a real interest in the tool; This visit will help them in their reflections to develop the doctrine of their future aircraft carrier.
