Lockheed Martin & US Navy Deliver Final MH-60R 'Romeo' Helicopter to Royal Australian Navy
 
Lockheed Martin, together with the U.S. Navy, ceremonially delivered the 24th, and final, MH-60R SEAHAWK® helicopter to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The hand-over occurred during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Lockheed Martin’s purpose-built logistics and maintenance facility in Nowra which will house and maintain the new fleet.

Russia and Egypt continue talks on Mistral-class LHD Weapons and Systems
 
A ceremony of floating out the third Project 22350 frigate Admiral Golovko has been postponed to the third quarter of 2017, the Northern Shipyard’s press office told TASS on the eve of the Army 2016 international military and technical forum.
Russia and Egypt continue negotiations on supplies of communications equipment and helicopters for Mistral-class LHDs. So far no contract has been inked, Russian presidential aide for military-technical cooperation Vladimir Kozhin told TASS.

Russia May Purchase Air-Launched Variant of BrahMos Anti-Ship Cruise Missile for its Su-30SM
 
The test trials of the air-launched variant of the BrahMos anti-ship cruise missile that were due to begin in March 2016 have slipped to mid-2016. According to the Times of India daily the reason is the missile launch unit has not been certificated yet.
Russia’s Defense Ministry is interested in purchasing the air-launched version of the BrahMos cruise missile to arm the Sukhoi Su-30SM (NATO reporting name: Flanker-C) fighter jet, a military and diplomatic source told TASS. The BrahMos cruise missile was jointly developed by Russia and India.

MBDA to Supply Marte ER and Exocet MM40 Block 3 Coastal Missile System to Qatar
 
MBDA signed on September 1st in Doha a contract for the supply of a coastal defence system for the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces (QENF). This innovative coastal missile system will deploy two different munitions, Marte ER (the Extended Range version of the Marte missile) and Exocet MM40 Block 3 , and it will be able to work in autonomous mode with its own radar, or alternatively by data-linking to a higher level within a wider coastal surveillance network.

Russia is developing a sophisticated sonar system to protect its territorial waters in the Arctic, according to the Izvestia daily. The advanced system comprises sonobuoys and underwater sensors detecting acoustic signals of submerged and surface objects and feeding the data to a land-based center by a satcom link. At present, the conceptual design of the system is being looked into. The development is due for completion next year, and after the Defense Ministry has given the green light, its deployment will begin.

Publication of documents: DCNS welcomes the decision of the Australian judicial authorities
 
The Supreme Court of the State of New South Wales (Australia) confirmed today the preliminary decision it had rendered on Monday, August 29, 2016 against “The Australian”. The Australian newspaper, which has already withdrawn, after this first decision, the documents published on its website will provide DCNS with all the documents in its possession and is prohibited from publishing any additional document.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced the completion of the first round of sea trials for the guided missile destroyer John Finn (DDG 113). The Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) ship, built at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, spent three days in the Gulf of Mexico testing the ship’s main propulsion system and other ship systems.

Fincantieri Signed the SEA 5000 Participant Services Contract with Australian Government
 
The Australian Governement announced the designs shortlisted for the SEA5000 ASW Frigate program. First pass approval for the Future Frigates. Three designers – BAE Systems with the Type 26 Frigate; Fincantieri with the FREMM Frigate, and Navantia with a redesigned F100 – have been short-listed to refine their designs. The frigates will all be built in Adelaide, incorporating the Australian-developed CEA Phased-Array Radar.
Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups and number one by diversification and innovation, has signed a contract with the Australian Government to participate in the Competitive Evaluation Process, conducted by the Department of Defence, to deliver 9 Future Frigates - to be built in Adelaide, South Australia - for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) under the SEA 5000 programme.

HII Completes USS John Warner Submarine Post-Shakedown Availability
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced that its Newport News Shipbuilding division has completed post-shakedown availability (PSA) work on the submarine USS John Warner (SSN 785). It was the shipyard’s first PSA of a Virginia-class submarine and the first accomplished without having to put the boat into a dry dock for external hull work. The submarine was redelivered to the U.S. Navy August 31st.
