Navy Burke-class Destroyer USS Ross (DDG-71) to Escort French
Navy Aircraft Carrier |

The
U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross
(DDG 71) will participate to the escort of French Navy (Marine Nationale)
aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle strike group (CSG). The
destroyer joined the French Naval Base of Toulon on September 13th.
The French CSG is currently conducting an exercise off the French coasts
(named Gabian) and is likely to become operational against Daesh in
a matther of days. |

It
was previously announced
that German Navy Bremen-class Frigate Augsburg would join the
French Navy CSG as well. USS Ross is the last "Flight I" Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer. This ship is the 21st destroyer of its class. USS Ross was the 10th ship of this class to be built at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was commissioned in June 1997.
