Targeting at the middle flight section is provided by inertial navigational system with a pulse radio altimeter and at the 40-kilometer long end section by active radar seeker. The jam-resistant seeker can select targets in a group of warships and choose a priority for attack. The end section flight proceeds at an altitude of 10-20 meters. The missile can maneuver to escape warship defense weapons at the end flight.
The subsonic Kh-35 (3M24) missile of the Bal complex has a cruising speed of 270 meters per second and a firing range of 120 kilometers. At present the Bal is armed with upgraded Kh-35U (3M24U) missiles with a range of up to 260 kilometers. The altitude of the cruising flight section is 10-15 meters and of the end section - 1.5 meters. Targeting at the cruising section is provided by inertial navigational system with a pulse radio altimeter and at the end section by active radar seeker. Kh-35U is also equipped with a satellite navigational system. The high-explosive fragmenting penetrator warhead weighs 145 kilograms. © Copyright 2017 TASS. All rights reserved.
