The British Royal Navy commissioned the second Tide-class tanker Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), Tiderace, into service during ceremony in Portland, UK on August 3rd.
The Nevskoye Design Bureau has offered a universal landing ship (UDK or LHD in English) project to the Russian Navy, the bureau’s head, Sergei Orlov, has said.
The French defense procurement agency (DGA) just issued a request for information (RFI) for the procurement of six offshore patrol vessels for the French Navy (Marine Nationale) as part of the POM program. These vessels will be based in French overseas territories.
Six submarines of project 636.3 for the Pacific fleet will be built on time, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said. "(The deadline) is not delayed. Admiralty shipyard is operating rhythmically and will do everything on time," he said. The six submarines have to be handed over to the Pacific fleet in 2019, but it was reported the deadline had been moved to the autumn of 2020. The series is to be built in 2022.
Indonesian shipyard PT PAL (Persero) in Surabaya launched the sixth landing platform dock (LPD) for the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL)on August 3rd. The vessel named "KRI Semarang" (hull number 594) will be the 5th vessel of the Makassar-class. The contract for the construction of this ship was concluded by the Indonesian Navy with PT PAL on January 11, 2017. The vessel is set to be delivered by December 2018.
The French Navy (Marine Nationale) L'Astrolabe, France's new Polar Logistic Support Vessel (Navire Logistique Polaire or PLV) entered "Active Duty" in late June 2018 and is now able to conduct operational missions. The PLV is based on Reunion island and is conducting missions for the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF) administration, the French National Antarctic Program (IPEV) and the French Navy.
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) started fabrication of the 13th LPD-17 San Antonio class ship, LPD-29, July 30, at its shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The start of fabrication signifies that the first 100 tons of steel have been cut.
Austal successfully completed acceptance trials on Burlington, Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF 10), last week, in the Gulf of Mexico. Burlington is slated for delivery to the U.S. Navy in the Fall and is the tenth ship in Austal’s 12-ship portfolio valued at over $1.9 billion.
The latest Russian corvettes will be armed with Pantsir-M air defense artillery guns, the Izvestia daily reported. Buyan-M-class the Stavropol corvette of project 21631 laid in early July will be the first to integrate the latest air defense weapon, the main Navy command told the newspaper. After test operation other corvettes of the project and other warships will be armed with Pantsir which will make them less vulnerable to air attacks and enhance the fight against aircraft, drones and cruise missiles.
The Philippine Navy (PN) formally entered the missile age after it test-fired its Rafael Advanced Defense Ltd. Spike-ER (extended range) surface-to-surface missile off Lamao Point, in Limay, Bataan Thursday morning. The missile was fired from one of the Navy's multi-purpose assault craft (MPAC), Navy spokesperson Cmdr. Jonathan Zata said.
The U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Mexico of six Raytheon Evolved Seasparrow tactical missiles (ESSM) and two Evolved Seasparrow telemetry missiles for an estimated cost of $41 million. The missiles are intended for the Mexican Navy's first Sigma 10514 "POLA" surface vessel currently under construction.
