"Tow bow thrusters of 2 MW and propeller diameter of 2.5 meters were designed for cable-laying vessels of project 15310. According to the contract, the Zvyozdochka has already supplied elements of propulsion control complex and foundations," it said.

The next stage will see supplies of steerable thrusters with a capacity of 4.5 MW which are being produced by the propulsion center of Zvyozdochka.

The first two vessels under the program - the Volga and Vyatka - were laid down in January 2015 at Zelenodolsk Shipyard. The vessels being built in line with the design from Hotchya Marine Engineering are Russia’s first vessels in the class designed to lay, recover and repair fiber-optic cable communication lines, including doing this in the High North. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

They will be fitted with an integrated control system by Kronstadt Group’s subsidiary Kronstadt Technologies. It will unite the whole of the automatics of the cable-laying vessels, including specialized cable-laying mechanisms. The system ensures navigation safety and effective and accurate tactical calculations and communications - both intercom and with other ships of the Russian Navy.

Some local sources believe Project 15310 vessels will likely take part in the creation of the future Russian "SOSUS-like" global Maritime Surveillance System named Garmoniya thanks to their capability to pave thousands of miles of communication cables in the arctic.he next stage will see supplies of steerable thrusters with a capacity of 4.5 MW which are being produced by the propulsion center of Zvyozdochka.
