The Indian Navy has successfully launched a Barak Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM) from its destroyer INS Chennai.

The Indian Navy, on January 24, has fired a Barak-8 LRSAM missile (equipped with active seekers for terminal guidance) from a destroyer, the INS Chennai, successfully hitting an incoming aerial target flying at low altitudes.
This missile-type has been joinlty designed by US Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), and it has been manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited and Rafael.
The Barak-8 is destined to defend ships and coastal infrastructures against any type of airborne threat (aircraft, helicopter, anti-ship missiles, UAVs, UASs, UCAVs, UCASs, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles). Its range can reach up to 100km at speeds going up to Mach 2.
