13 nations, more than 13 000 men, participate in Joint Warrior military exercise
 
More than 13,000 personnel from 13 nations take part in Joint Warrior, the largest European military exercise of the year, which begins today. 49 ships from various navies as well as 40 aircraft are involved in this exercise which goal is to put NATO’s Response Force Task Group to the test through a series of manoeuvres across the east and west coast of Scotland over the next three weeks.
     
Insitu Inc. announced today the successful first maritime flight of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (STUAS) RQ-21A. The nearly two-hour flight launched from the USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) after three months of land-based development testing and operational assessment.

Participating nations include The UK, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Norway, Poland and Sweden.

The Royal Navy is commiting the following ships to the exercise: Amphibious Assault Ship (LPD) HMS Bulwark, Type 26 Frigates HMS Sutherland and HMS Montrose, Survey Ship HMS Echo and Nuclear Powered Submarine HMS Talent.

The French Navy participates to Joint Warrior with the following vessels: Command and replenishment ship Marne (A630), an undisclosed nuclear powered submarine (Rubis class), two Atlantique II Maritime Patrol Aircraft and two airwings from Nuclear Aircraft Carrier Charles de Gaulle (8x Super-Etendards Modernisés, 7x Rafale M and 1x Hawkeye). Charles de Gaulle CVN being currently in a scheduled refit, the French Navy aircraft will be based on land for the exercise.

This year's exercise will have a strong focus on Mine Warfare operations, with the following MCM Mine Countermeasures Vessels participating:

Later this year, there will be a second component to the exercise. J
oint Warrior 13-2 will be held in October, with a focus on air operations.
