ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Canada has been chosen to supply the design for the Royal Canadian Navy’s new Joint Support Ships following a stringent selection process. For ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems is this design decision an important success. Since also other Navies are considering proven design solutions, this decision will improve ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems position in the competitive markets.

Nigeria Federal Government to acquire additional Armoured Patrol Boats
 
Nigeria will procure additional patrol boats in the next few months, as part of an effort to fight the increasing piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. State owned company Messrs Global West Vessels Specialist Limited already received a contract to provide up to 20 armoured patrol boats to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Nigeria will procure additional patrol boats in the next few months, as part of an effort to fight the increasing piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. State owned company Messrs Global West Vessels Specialist Limited already received a contract to provide up to 20 armoured patrol boats to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

In April 2013 Vice-Amiral d'Escadre (Squadron Vice-Admiral) Coriolis, commanding officer of the French Navy's FOST (for Force océanique stratégique or Strategic Oceanic Force), and his Royal Navy counterpart Rear Admiral Corder, Commander Operations (COMOPS), visited the Barracuda SSN combat system shore integration facility located at Toulon naval base, Southern France.

ITT Exelis to provide US Navy F/A-18 C/D and E/F with advanced electronic countermeasures
 
ITT Exelis has been awarded a contract valued at more than $125 million by Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md., to deliver the latest variant of the AN/ALQ-214 airborne jammer. The AN/ALQ-214 is a subsystem of the Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures (IDECM) suite. Under this contract, Exelis will engage in the second full-rate production lot of the new AN/ALQ-214 (V)4/5 system.

USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) conducted the first aircraft carrier-borne end-to-end at-sea test of the Surface Ship Torpedo Defense (SSTD) System, May 15-19. The SSTD System combines the passive detection capability of the Torpedo Warning System that not only finds torpedoes but also classifies and tracks them, with the hard-kill capability of the Countermeasure Anti-Torpedo — an encapsulated miniature torpedo.

EADS North America Delivers 15th HC-144A Ocean Sentry to U.S. Coast Guard
 
The U.S. Coast Guard took delivery of its 15th HC-144A Ocean Sentry maritime patrol aircraft from prime contractor EADS North America. The Ocean Sentry is based on the Airbus Military CN235 tactical airlifter, more than 230 of which are currently in operation by 29 countries.

DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers Multiyear Procurement Contract Awarded
 
The Navy awarded two contracts for the DDG 51 fiscal years (FY) 2013-2017 multiyear procurement (MYP) for DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers June 3. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) is being awarded a $2,843,385,450 fixed-price incentive firm target (FPIF) contract for the design and construction of four DDG 51 class ships, one in FY 2013 and one each in FY 2015-2017. This award also includes a contract option for a fifth ship.

Lockheed Martin Successfully Completes LRASM Vertical Launch System Tests
 
Lockheed Martin has received a $71 million Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) modification contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to conduct air- and surface-launched flight tests and other risk reduction activities.
Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] successfully completed MK 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS) “push-through” testing of a simulated Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM). Four consecutive tests verified that the simulated LRASM can break or “push through” the MK 41 canister’s forward cover without causing damage to the composite structure, air data probe or coatings of the missile.

Bridge lifted on future Royal Australian Navy Air Warfare Destroyer
 
The Bridge for the first destroyer that is under construction as part of the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project was this week lifted onto the ship structure. The AWD Alliance completed this work on Wednesday morning. The block is a combination of two smaller blocks constructed by lead shipbuilder ASC and weighing more than 200 tonnes, it is the biggest to be added to the ship structure to date.

Horizon MF is Raytheon Anschütz’ new strap down compass system which uses Hemispherical Resonator Gyros (HRG) to measure angular rates for heading calculation.

Designed by Kvichak/Amgram Ltd., UK and built by Kvichak Marine, the Patrol 28 is effective for operation in port and coastal waters, including shallow areas. Missions for the Patrol 28 include search and rescue, border patrol and maritime security.
