Russian Navy planning to fit its vessels with naval versions of Pantsir and TOR air defense systems | |||
According
to industry sources, naval variants of the Pantsir and TOR-M2 short-range
air defense systems will enter service with the Russian Navy in about
two years. “The Defense Ministry showed great interest in the
naval variant of the Pantsir. It has been decided that several destroyers
and other large warships will be modernized to accommodate the system,”
said Dmitry Konoplev, managing director of the KBP Instrument Design
Bureau. |

The Pantsir-S1, produced by Russia's KBP Instrument
Design Bureau, is a gun-missile system combining a wheeled vehicle mounting
a fire-control radar and electro-optical sensor, two 30-mm cannons and
up to 12 57E6 radio-command guided short-range missiles, and is designed
to take on a variety of targets flying at low altitudes.

During IMDS 2013 naval defence exhibition held recently
in St Petersburg, Navy Recognition learned that Russian Defense Company
Almaz-Antey is also working on a naval version of its Tor-M2 short-range
air defense missile system with tests to begin in the next couple of
years.
The land based Tor-M2 / M2E is designed to attack aircraft, helicopters, aerodynamic UAVs, guided missiles and other components of high precision weapons flying at medium, low and extremely low altitudes in adverse air and jamming environment. Link to TOR-M2 technical datasheet |
