Russian shipbuilders Capable of Servicing Mistral-class LHDs according to Defense Ministry

First Sea Trial for Italian Navy FREMM Frigate Carabiniere
 
On 25 June 2014, the Italian FREMM frigate “Carabiniere” had her first sea going, successfully reaching this important milestone three months earlier than her predecessor the “Carlo Margottini”. Carabiniere will be specialize for anti-submarine warfare, like FREMM Virginio Fasan and Carlo Margottini. The first ship of the class Carlo Bergamini is in "general purpose" configuration.

MBDA's First Sea Ceptor/Common Anti-air Modular Missile (CAMM) Firings Are A Double Success
 
MBDA carried out two successful guided firings by the Sea Ceptor air defence system on 29th May and 5th June at the land-based Vidsel range facilities in Sweden. These firings were the first seeker guided firings for the Common Anti-air Modular Missile (CAMM), including using its two-way data link to communicate with the Sea Ceptor system.

Her Majesty the Queen has officially named the UK’s newest aircraft carrier today at Rosyth, near Edinburgh, in a spectacular ceremony celebrating British naval capability. Recognising the strategic importance of HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH, the Prime Minister, Secretary of State for Defence and First Sea Lord joined the celebrations, along with allies from around the world and more than 3,500 people involved in the design and construction of the largest warship ever built in the UK.

Brazilian Navy Signs Contract for Lynx Mk21A Maritime Helicopters Upgrade
 
AgustaWestland is pleased to announce that the Brazilian Navy’s Naval Aviation has signed a contract for a major midlife upgrade of eight Lynx Mk21A helicopters. The contract, valued in excess of US$160 million (€117 million), includes replacement of the aircraft’s engines with the CTS800-4N product from LHTEC, navigation, displays suite and mission avionics. A comprehensive support and training package that includes a Flight Training Device is also included in the contract.

Saab Receives Order from FMV to Design New Lightweight Torpedo
 
Defence and security company Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) regarding design plans for a New Lightweight Torpedo (NLT). The order refers to the period 2014-2015 and amounts to the value of MSEK 43. The order is part of the Letter of Intent regarding the Swedish armed forces’ underwater capability which was announced on June 9, 2014.

Boeing, U.S. Navy Expand P-8A Maritime Patrol Fleet with 14th Delivery
 
Boeing recently helped expand the U.S. Navy’s maritime patrol capabilities with delivery of the 14th P-8A Poseidon aircraft. The P-8A, delivered on schedule, is now with its squadron at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla. Boeing will deliver seven more of the maritime patrol aircraft this year.

The U.K. Ministry of Defence has engaged in a major program to update and upgrade its current fleet of frigates. In the next decade, Type 26 Global Combat Ships will become the backbone of the Royal Navy, replacing its existing Type 23 Frigates.

KONGSBERG signs NOK 1.1 billion JSM contract with the Norwegian Armed Forces
 
Kongsberg Gruppen ASA (KONGSBERG) has signed a Phase III contract with the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organization (NDLO) to complete the development of the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) and prepare it for integration on the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). This contract is valued at NOK 1.1 billion, and comes on the heels of a bridge phase contract signed on 29 November 2013, bringing the total scope of JSM development Phase III to some NOK 1.5 billion.

The lead mine countermeasures vessel (MCMV) of the new project 12700, the Alexander Obukhov (named after a famed Soviet fleet boat commander and hero) was launched during a ceremony at Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard in St Petersburg. The hull of this new class is made of composite materials in order to reduce electromagnetic interference (which could trigger the mines) and eases maintenance of the ship's structure.
