First United States Coast Guard Alenia C-27J Spartan Arrives At Elizabeth City
 
The first C-27J to complete the Coast Guard’s regeneration process arrived at the HC-27J Asset Project Office in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Nov. 13, where it will be used to train and qualify Coast Guard aircrew and maintenance personnel, as well as develop flight and maintenance procedures for Coast Guard-specific mission profiles. Ultimately the aircraft will receive the equipment and systems needed to perform the full spectrum of Coast Guard missions.

Future Zumwalt class Destroyer USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) Deckhouse Successfully Integrated
 
The future USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), completed the successful lift and integration of the deckhouse on to the ship's hull at General Dynamics' Bath Iron Works (BIW) shipyard Nov.14. The Michael Monsoor will be the second ship of the DDG 1000 Zumwalt class, the U.S. Navy's next generation destroyer. Deckhouse integration is a major milestone for the ship and the DDG 1000 program.

Zhuhai Airshow: CASIC unveiled the CM-708UNA Submarine Launched Anti-Ship Missile
 
At Zhuhai China Air Show 2014, (which was covered by our affiliate Army Recognition) Chinese defense company China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation (CASIC) unveiled a submarine launched anti-ship missile designated CM-708UNA. The system consists in a CM-708 anti-ship missile (also designated C-802, the export version of the YJ-8) with folding wings and a booster at its back encapsulated inside a torpedo-like capsule.

Official: Swedish Armed Forces Now Confirm Submarine Presence in the Stockholm archipelago
 
The Swedish Armed Forces now confirms that a submarine has violated Swedish territorial integrity. Results from the analysis following the intelligence operation conducted in October are unambiguous. "There is no doubt, we have excluded all other explanations. Swedish territory has been seriously and unacceptably violated by a foreign power" says Supreme Commander Sverker Göranson.

Indian Navy test-fires nuclear capable Dhanush ballistic missile from Patrol Vessel
 
India on Friday tested its nuclear-capable ballistic missile Dhanush from an Indian Navy patrol vessel in the Bay of Bengal in Odisha, eastern India. The missile, fired from a naval ship somewhere between Puri and Visakhapatnam as part of the training exercise of the Indian Navy, was described as successful by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Lockheed Martin Delivers the 200th MH-60R “Romeo” Helicopter to the U.S. Navy
 
The U.S. Navy received its 200th submarine-hunting MH-60R “Romeo” helicopter from Lockheed Martin following a patch signing with Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Seven-Two (HSM-72). The cornerstone of the U.S. Navy’s anti-surface and anti-submarine operations, MH-60R helicopters have flown more than 250,000 hours in operation with the Fleet, providing increased surveillance and situational awareness.

In late October, 16 Sailors from the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) became the first in the fleet officially trained to operate the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS). EMALS is replacing the current steam catapult system on aircraft carriers, beginning with the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).

Brazilian Navy statement: FAB Purchase Agreement of the Gripen NG will benefit the Navy of Brazil
 
The Brazilian navy (Marinha do Brasil) issued a statement regarding the aquisition of Gripen fighters: On 24 October, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) signed with the Swedish company SAAB the contract for the purchase of 36 Gripen NG fighter aircraft. The first aircraft will be delivered in 2019 and the last one in 2024. The investment of approximately US $ 13 billion involves the training of Brazilian pilots and mechanics in Sweden, logistical support and technology transfer to Brazilian industries.

F-35C Lightning II continues initial sea trials aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68)
 
PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 4, 2014) An F-35C Lightning II carrier variant joint strike fighters conducts the first catapult launches aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). The F-35C Lightning II, the carrier variant of the Joint Strike Fighter, continues initial sea trials aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) off the coast of Southern California. Through Nov. 6, the fourth day of at-sea testing, two test F-35C aircraft have completed 12 flights. During those 12 flights, the aircraft flew a combined 12.7 flight hours and accomplished 203 test points.
 

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Successfully Tested the Barak-8 Air & Missile Defense System
 
On November 10, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD), conducted a successful test of the Barak-8 Air & Missile Defense System. Barak-8 is an advanced groundbreaking air and missile defense system that provides ultimate protection against a variety of aerial platforms, both land and naval scenarios. It is designed jointly with the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) in India and is used by the IDF and the Indian defense forces. The system includes an advanced Phased Array digital radar, command and control, vertical launchers and missiles carrying a highly advanced seeker.

After a long period out of the water and alongside conducting her Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) upgrade, HMAS Anzac has sailed from Fleet Base West and made a big splash, firing two MU90 Practice Delivery Torpedoes (PDTs) in pursuit of her Sea Qualifications Trials. The last week of October was a busy one, with the ship's crew completing her Mariner Skills Evaluation (MSE) which allowed the ship to safely proceed to sea.

The Gabonese Republic has chosen Nexter Systems to equip its four RaidCo RPB20 express-cruiser patrol boats with the 15A naval mounts, and its future ocean-going patrol boat, ordered on 29 October 2014 from the Piriou dockyard, with the 20mm NARWHAL® remote-controlled naval gun. These weapon systems, based on the 20 M 621 cannon, will enable the Gabonese navy to effectively combat piracy and will contribute to the protection of Gabonese national waters.

The Royal Moroccan Navy’s high-tech frigate Tarik Ben Ziyad has returned to the Damen Shipyards Group for its first routine dry-docking after three years of operation. The SIGMA multi-mission frigate 10513 – built at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) in the Netherlands – arrived at Damen Shiprepair Brest in France on 24 October for a maintenance programme of approximately 30 days.

The U.S Navy made aviation history Nov. 3 as an F-35C Lightning II carrier variant Joint Strike Fighter conducted its first arrested landing aboard an aircraft carrier off the coast of San Diego. U.S. Navy test pilot Cmdr. Tony Wilson landed F-35C test aircraft CF-03 at 12:18 p.m. aboard USS Nimitz's (CVN 68) flight deck.

Two U.S. Navy F-35C stealth fighters are set to contuct the first aircraft carrier tests over the next two weeks on board USS Nimitz (CVN-68). Test aircraft CF-3 and CF-5 will be used for the test that will reflect typical carrier operations: Touch and go, arrested landings and catapult launches. Lt. Gen. Chris Bogdan, the Joint Strike Fighter program executive officer said the two F-35Cs are flying directly to the carrier and will land using arresting gear.

Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division launched the company’s 10th amphibious transport dock, John P. Murtha (LPD 26). “This ship is tracking to be one of our best LPDs ever, and it is the most complete ship at launch to date,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias. “We are incorporating learning from each ship to improve our performance in both cost and schedule. Our hot production line in LPD construction provides efficiencies in day-to-day work efforts and helps stabilize the program and the associated supplier base.”
